Accommodating intraocular lenses and methods of use

Forming a proximal anastomosis on an aortic wall includes method and instrumentation and apparatus for forming an aortic puncture and inserting into the vessel through the puncture a fluid-impervious sealing element with a protruding retainer. An anastomosis of a graft vessel over the puncture is partially completed with the retainer of the sealing element protruding through the partial anastomosis. The retainer facilitates removal of the sealing element from the partial anastomosis prior to completion of the procedure.

Accommodating intraocular lenses

An accommodating intraocular lens including an optic portion comprising an anterior surface and a posterior surface, a peripheral portion disposed radially relative to the optic portion and in communication with the optic portion and, the peripheral portion having a proximal portion secured to the optic portion and a free distal portion disposed away from the proximal portion, and a radially innermost surface of the peripheral portion, from the proximal portion to the free distal portion, follows a curved radially-outermost peripheral surface of the optic portion.

Systems and their methods of use for testing intraocular lenses outside of the lens capsule. In some embodiments the systems measure an accommodative response based on a force applied to the intraocular lens.

Systems and methods for testing intraocular lenses

A guiding catheter includes an inner guide movably disposed within an outer guide. Both inner and outer guides include inner and outer balloons, respectively, located at the distal tip of the guides. The inner guide balloon is fluted, thereby allowing blood to flow past the implanted balloon when inflated. The outer balloon is substantially annular in shape and is deployable as an occlusion balloon. Various sensors can be provided at the distal end of the guiding catheter to assist in locating a destination vessel or structure of interest.

A medical punch includes a longitudinally dividable anvil with a reduced cross-sectional dimension facilitating insertion of the anvil into the vessel wall to achieve a clean aperture in the vessel wall by cooperative shearing action of a cutting edge and an anvil edge. In another embodiment, the instrument incorporates a measuring device for determining the thickness of a vessel wall between an anvil and a distal end of a cylindrical structure which together form a caliper, and the measuring device can also constitute a medical punch by cooperative shearing action of a cutting edge and an anvil to achieve a clean aperture in the vessel wall.

Medical punch and surgical procedure

A catheter for insertion in a physiological lumen is provided which includes two balloons, wherein the distance between the balloons can be adjusted. The catheter can be used for the delivery of a therapeutic substance for the treatment of conditions such as restenosis.
