A method of using a hanger for supporting a load from an underside of a metal decking is described. The metal decking has a trough with a first groove opposing a second groove, and the hanger includes a flexible body which has an unflexed length that is greater than the groove spacing and is adapted to accept a load from a rod, cable, or wire. The method includes inserting the load support assembly through the aperture; contacting the first end of the body with the first groove of the metal decking; flexing the body to decrease the distance between the first end and the second end to a distance equal to or less than the groove spacing; and contacting the second end of the flexible body with the second groove of the metal decking. The body supports the load support assembly between the first groove and the second groove, and such that the load support assembly is movable relative to the flexible body.

Method of attaching a load to metal decking

A clamp and method of a clamp to a metal decking are described. The metal decking includes a bottom flange an a pair of webs each having a groove. The clamp is side to generally conform to the shape of the bottom flange and a the webs and includes at least two set bolts that engage the pair of grooves. The method includes positioning the clamp against a bottom flange of the metal decking and advancing two or more set bolts from the clamp into the grooves.

A hanger for suspending a load from a metal decking is described. A first hanger includes a body having ends that may be placed between opposing metal decking grooves and a separate assembly placed through an aperture in the body and adapted to support a load. The hanger thus permits the load to move side-to-side in the hanger, thus lessening the impact of seismic events on the hanger. A second hanger attaches two bodies, each having ends that may be placed between opposing metal decking grooves and a separate assembly placed through an aperture in the body used to attach the bodies to a strut channel. An additional assembly attached to strut channel is adapted to support a load. A hanger and method are also presented for preventing damage to concrete-filled metal decking hangers resulting from a seismic event.

A hanger assembly and method of hanging conduits in buildings is described which protects the structure of the building from damage during a seismic event. The hanger assembly includes a frangible element which is calibrated to break when subjected to some higher than normal tensile load resulting from rapid acceleration of the conduit. Thus, for example, in the event of an earthquake, the hanger will fail before damage is done to the concrete to which the anchor is attached.

A clamp for joining rods and a method for joining rods used for bracing a load is presented. The clamp has an opening to accept threaded portions of each of a pair of rods, which are parallel to each other with threads touching. The clamp forces the thread portions of the rods together to allow the rods to support compressive and tensile loads. The clamps may be used in pairs to provide added bending resistance to the rods.

A hanger and method of attaching a hanger to a deck is described. The method includes attaching the hanger parallel to the ground by attaching them to opposing surfaces of a corrugation of the deck. Certain methods include expanding the length of the hanger to place it in compression. Other methods include flexing the hanger to place it in compression. The method is particularly useful in retrofitting as it generates very little noise and vibration in a structure.

An apparatus and method for the seismic stabilization of loads supported by hanger rods are presented. The apparatus includes a compression member that is placed in parallel to a hanger rod and which spans, or substantially spans, the distance from the load, which may be a conduit, and the supporting structure. This apparatus may be retrofit onto existing load-bearing hanger rods, or may be included at the time of installation of the conduit. Methods of installation are described that allow for providing additional structural integrity without disassembly of existing supports.

The bracket is placeable over a threaded rod and includes sidewalls for accepting a fastener and a pair of apertures for attaching to a brace. Certain brackets are stackable, allowing for the attachment of multiple braces from a single anchored rod. Other brackets include two parts that allow the bracket to be assembled about a threaded rod without removing elements which might previously be attached to the rod.

The present invention provides methods for using detection methods, including mass spectrometry methods such as SELDI-TOF-MS, to detect and analyze molecules directly transferred from a sample to a surface to form a molecular print of the sample. Methods and compositions of the invention can be used to produce spatially and non-spatially oriented molecular prints for detection using methods such as mass spectrometry. Methods and compositions of the invention encompass molecular printing of tissues, cells and gels onto surfaces.

Stiffener apparatus for stabilizing a hanger rod includes a clamp having a mechanical fastener extending through openings formed in spaced clamp segments. The clamp is constructed of deformable material so that the clamp segments bend into engagement with the hanger rod to urge the hanger rod toward an elongated stiffener member positioned between a closed end of the clamp and the hanger rod when the mechanical fastener is tightened.

A bracket connects a structural member to a structural element to stabilize the structural member against movement. The bracket includes connector portions for connecting the bracket to tensioned stabilizing cables or other structural stabilizing elements and one or more bearing elements which bear against the structural member to prevent relative rotational movement between the bracket and the structural member.

A hanger rod stiffener includes a clamp having two straight, double-ended, spaced, parallel clamp segments and a third clamp segment extending between them. The clamp is positioned over a stiffener member and a hanger rod and the third clamp segment is disposed at an angle to bias the hanger rod to a predetermined position within the clamp when the stiffener member and clamp are brought together.

A brace for retaining a rod at a fixed location relative to building structure. The brace includes two brace members in face-to-face engagement to define a rod receiving opening with slots formed in the brace members. The brace members are connected together by an integral rigid attachment element at a location spaced from the rod receiving opening and resisting relative movement between the brace members.
