Material preparation devices and related methods include a material or substrate assembly and an application assembly for applying a fiber material.

Material preparation device and related methods

A material preparation device is provided. The material preparation device includes a bias-ply assembly, a feedstock assembly and an application head. The bias-ply assembly is configured to pass a bias-ply backing material along a first path. The feedstock assembly is configured to pass a feedstock along a second path that crosses the first path at a select angle. The feedstock includes resin pre-impregnated fiber-reinforced material (pre-preg) having the fibers at a first orientation relative to an edge of the feedstock. The application head is configured to transfer the pre-preg from the feedstock to the bias-ply backing material at a location where the first path crosses the second path to form a bias-ply with the fibers of the pre-preg having a second, different orientation relative to an edge of the formed bias-ply.

Material preparation device

A hail producing machine includes at least one diffuser for mixing water and carbon dioxide. At least one heat exchanger is in flow communication with the diffuser for receiving the mixture. A refrigeration unit freezes the mixture to form an ice rod in the heat exchanger. The ice rod is ejected from the heat exchanger and is converted into hail stones by a molding station downstream from the heat exchanger.

A material preparation device is provided. The material preparation device includes a bias-ply assembly, a feedstock assembly and an application head. The bias-ply assembly is configured to pass a bias-ply backing material along a first path. The feedstock assembly is configured to pass a feedstock along a second path that crosses the first path at a select angle. The feedstock includes resin pre-impregnated fiber reinforced material (pre-preg) having the fibers at a first orientation relative to an edge of the feedstock. Automated bias-ply preparation device and process

An apparatus for splicing an elongate multi-layered workpiece includes: (a) drives and guides cooperating to drive the workpiece along a working path; (b) a cutter for severing the workpiece; (c) a layer manipulator for separating layers; (d) an applicator for applying adhesive; and (e) a deflector unit for deflecting the workpiece from the working path. The cutter effects the severing to present first and second workpiece segments. The layer manipulator effects inter-layer separation in one segment to present an interlayer zone in the one segment. A drive inserts the other segment in the interlayer zone. The layer manipulator urges the layers together to capture the other segment within the interlayer zone to establish a multi-layer structure. A drive and at least one of the workpiece deflector unit and the applicator situate the multi-layer structure adjacent to the applicator for finishing the splicing by applying adhesive to the multi-layer structure.

Apparatus and method for splicing an elongate multi-layered workpiece

A bearing mounting system and method that reduces vibration using a singular annular elastomeric member contained in a substantially enclosed area that includes open area free of elastomeric material. A bearing raceway surface and an adjacent support surface are spaced apart by a predetermined radial gap. The enclosed cross-sectional area is bounded by features on the bearing raceway surface and the supporting surface that could be either the rotating roll or a support shaft. The enclosed area has a depth and a width and includes the radial gap. The viscoelastic deformation of the elastomeric member contained in this enclosed area in conjunction with the amount of open area in the enclosed area, provides a dual stiffness system that reduces or eliminates the excessive vibration that occurs in chucks for textile fiber windups or similar systems, when there is relative movement to reduce the radial gap and the enclosed area containing the radial gap.

A winder for elastomeric fibers, which can reciprocate the fiber during winding and provides a substantially constant distance of fiber travel between the point where the fiber leaves the puller roll and the point where the fiber first contacts the contact roll, is provided.

Winder for elastomeric fibers

A yarn cutting apparatus comprising a cutter body, piston and a cutting mechanism. The cutting body has a cylindrical bore extending from a first end to a second end and a body notch extending transversely from one side to the other side of the cutter body. The cutting mechanism comprises a first cutting element, having an element notch and a planar support surface and a planar cutting surface parallel with the support surface, slidably mounted in the cutter body to move within the cylindrical bore and a second cutting element resiliently mounted in the cutter body adjacent the body notch. The second cutting element has a cutting edge and a planar surface that is parallel with and in surface to surface contact with the planar surface of the first cutting element. The piston is slidably fitted into the bore and engages an end of the first cutting element adjacent the first end of the bore, while the opposite end of the end of the first cutting element is attached to a bearing element slidably fitted into the bore. The cutter body further includes a support attached adjacent to the body notch and opposite the second cutting element for engaging the planar support surface of the first cutting element to resist rotation of the first cutting element due to the urging of the second cutting element.

Yarn cutter

An electrolytic cell is provided for the electrochemical separation of selected metals from electrodissociatable compounds thereof in the molten state utilizing as electrode separator a plurality of solid electrolyte tubes which, under the influence of an electrical potential, are permeable to the flow of selected cations, but impermeable to fluids and the flow of anions and other cations. Means are provided with each tube for detecting the flow of molten metal from each solid electrolyte tube to a molten metal collection zone associated with the cell.

An electrolytic cell is provided for the electrochemical separation of selected metals from electrodissociatable compounds thereof in the molten state utilizing as electrode separator a plurality of solid electrolyte tubes which, under the influence of an electrical potential, are permeable to the flow of selected cations, but impermeable to fluids and the flow of anions and other cations. Electrical switching means are provided with each tube for starting and stopping production of molten metal therein, and for providing a removable electrical path between a cathodic element of the cell and the molten metal in each tube.
