Unused storage space within a data storage is utilized to store data while effectively making it appear to the operating system, other programs, and the user that the space is still available or unused. The space used to store the hidden data remains available for use by the operating system, other programs and uses upon a request. File system requests are monitored such that the hidden storage area remains hidden from unauthorized processes as well as to restrict operations within the hidden storage area that are attempted by unauthorized processes.

A method implemented by a first party to facilitate a sale by a second party of at least a subset of a set of items includes contractually committing, at a first time, to the second party to purchase title in the item subset, generating a displayable user interface accessible over a network to the second party, the user interface operable to allow the second party to input information describing the items, receiving the information over the network, and issuing via the network, at a second time of the first party's choosing and subsequent to the first time, a purchase order to the second party for the item subset. Alternatively, the purchase order may be issued by the second party at a second time of the second party's choosing and subsequent to the first time.

An embodiment of the invention provides the ability for forest products sellers to provide potential buyers with price and availability information about their products, whether or not those products are in existing inventory. It gives the seller control over which products can be pre-sold prior to production or purchase, and control over pre-sold quantities so that the seller may be not committed beyond his capacity to produce or purchase to fill orders and inquiries. An embodiment of the invention provides sellers a means for indicating willingness to sell specific forest products under specific conditions of price, time, delivery, and other terms.
