A vane for a gas turbine engine, the vane including a platform with an airfoil extending radially from the upper surface of the platform. The platform includes a joint portion which includes a circumferentially extending flange and a recessed surface both formed on either the upper or lower surface of the platform. The flange and the recessed surface extend from opposing circumferential edges of the joint portion and each include a substantially radially-extending through hole.

Vane joint

A seal assembly for a gas turbine engine having a rotor arranged to rotate about an axis in use. The seal assembly has a static support structure for the gas turbine engine and a casing structure of the engine. Rotation of the engine rotor causes a deflection of the casing structure relative to the static support structure in a first direction. A seal is provided at an interface between the static support structure and the casing structure, and comprising a first seal portion and a second seal portion spaced from one another in the first direction. The first seal portion is provided against a first surface of the casing structure and the second seal portion is provided against a second surface of the casing structure opposing the first surface. In an at-rest state in which the engine is not operational, the first and second surfaces are offset from an equilibrium position with respect to the static support structure such that there is a difference in compression of the first seal portion and the second seal portion between the static support structure and the casing structure. The offset is in a direction opposite to the first direction.

Seal assembly

A gas turbine engine casing is described as having a cowl door hinged to a casing support structure by at least one hinge. The cowl door is openable outwardly from the casing to expose a casing interior. The hinge is located above a longitudinal axis of the casing and comprises a pivoting linkage arranged such that, upon actuation between closed and open cowl door conditions, the pivoting linkage moves an upper portion of the cowl door downwards towards the longitudinal axis.

A method of manufacturing a vane arrangement for a gas turbine engine comprises providing an aerofoil having a hollow cavity with an open end and providing a support member having a stub. The method further comprises welding the aerofoil to the stub. The method yet further comprises removing material from the stub so as to define a hollow region that extends through the support member and stub to the cavity of the aerofoil.

Vane arrangement for a gas turbine engine

A method of manufacturing a vane arrangement for a gas turbine engine comprises providing an aerofoil having a hollow cavity with an open end and providing a support member having a stub with a through hole extending therethrough. The method comprises welding the aerofoil to the stub such that the open end of the hollow cavity of the aerofoil is aligned with the through hole of the stub so as to define a hollow region extending through the support member and stub to the cavity of the aerofoil. During welding a tool is positioned within the through hole and cavity and is aligned with an interface between the stub and aerofoil, the tool being configured to prevent weld splatter onto a surface of the cavity or through hole.

A gas turbine engine casing comprising: an inner circumferential wall; an outer circumferential wall spaced radially outwardly from the inner wall; wherein the inner and outer circumferential walls are formed by an axially repeating profile comprising an inner wall portion and an outer wall portion connected to one another by an intermediate portion, the axially repeating profile being arranged such that the inner wall portion abuts against and is connected to an adjacent inner wall portion to form the inner circumferential wall and the outer wall portion abuts against and is connected to an adjacent outer wall portion to form the outer circumferential wall.

Casing for a gas turbine engine and a method of manufacturing such a casing

There is proposed a fan casing arrangement for a gas turbine engine () of a type having a propulsive fan (), the fan casing arrangement being configured to circumscribe the fan () and having a fan case () and a fan track liner. The fan track liner is provided around the inside of the fan case () so as to adopt a radial position between the fan () and the fan case (), and the arrangement is configured such that the fan track liner includes a liner ring () which is radially outwardly biased against the inside of the fan case (). A related method of installing a fan track liner in a gas turbine engine is also disclosed.

Fan casing arrangement for a gas turbine engine

A method of manufacturing a hollow aerofoil component for a gas turbine engine includes using a capping panel to cover a pocket in a pocketed aerofoil body. During manufacture, the outer surface of the capping panel is located relative to the pocketed aerofoil body. This ensures that the outer surface of the capping panel is located as accurately as possible. This means that the capping panel can be made to be as thin as possible, which in turn reduces weight and material wastage. Once the capping panel has been located in position, it may be welded to the aerofoil body in order to produce the hollow aerofoil component.

A method of manufacturing a filled aerofoil component () for a gas turbine engine () comprises using a capping panel () to cover a pocket () in a pocketed aerofoil body (). This means that the capping panel () can be made to be as thin as possible, which in turn reduces weight and material wastage. The pre-formed filler insert () provides a lightweight core for the finished aerofoil component in use.

A fan casing arrangement for a gas turbine engine having a propulsive fan, the arrangement having a fan case and a fan track liner and being configured to circumscribe the fan, wherein the fan track liner is provided around the inside of fan case so as to adopt a radial position between the fan and the fan case. The fan track liner includes an elongate member which is helically-wound against the inside of the fan case in a plurality of turns. A method of installing a fan track liner in a fan casing arrangement for a gas turbine engine having a propulsive fan, the method involving: providing a fan case to circumscribe the fan, providing a flexible and elongate liner member, and helically winding the liner member against the inside of the fan case in a plurality of turns to define at least part of the fan track liner.

Fan casing arrangement for a gas turbine engine and related method

A method of manufacturing a hollow aerofoil component () for a gas turbine engine () comprises using a capping panel () to cover a pocket () in a pocketed aerofoil body (). During manufacture, a mandrel () is provided to support the capping panel () in the correct position. This ensures that the outer surface of the capping panel () is located as accurately as possible. This means that the capping panel () can be made to be as thin as possible, which in turn reduces weight and material wastage. Remotely detectable elements () may be provided to the mandrel () to enable the location of the pocket () to be accurately determined from outside the aerofoil ().

A liner for a composite blade of a gas turbine engine includes a metallic shoe, operable substantially to encase a blade root of a composite blade and defining an inner surface and an outer surface. The liner also includes a retention lug formed on the shoe and has inner and outer keys that project from opposed portions of the inner and outer surfaces. The keys engage corresponding recesses on a dovetail slot and a blade root to resist axial displacement of the composite blade.

An aerofoil blade assembly having a rotor disc having a radially outer surface provided with an axial slot and a radially inner surface provided with a circumferential slot, wherein the lower region of the axial slot intersects the upper region of the circumferential slot; an aerofoil blade having a blade root which is received by the axial slot and which is provided with a locating slot which corresponds to the circumferential slot; a retention key which engages with the circumferential slot and the locating slot to restrict axial displacement of the aerofoil blade with respect to the rotor disc, the retention key being provided with a socket which, when the retention key is engaged in the circumferential slot and the locating slot, is substantially aligned with the axial slot.

Within such machines as gas turbine engines it is desirable to provide close association between rotating assemblies and a rotor path arrangement to reduce leakage. However, such arrangements of rotor assemblies and rotor path arrangements are subject to thermal cycling and differentials between the respective parts can lead to rub associations. In order to allow closer thermal responses between the respective rotor path arrangement and rotor assembly, a flexible assembly is provided for a liner. A face surface is presented upon a backer plate or floating ring such that the thermal response can be tuned to the reciprocal similar effects under the same conditions of the rotor assembly. In such circumstances, closer gap control can be achieved. Furthermore, rather than requiring an entire integral casing to be overhauled, generally only the face surfaces and/or the flexible assembly will require remedial action.
