An electric machine includes a motor assembly including a motor and a motor controller coupled to the motor and configured to control operation of the motor. The electric machine also includes a motor housing defining an interior space and enclosing the motor assembly within the interior space. The electric machine further includes an electric machine housing. The motor housing is enclosed within the electric machine housing. The electric machine also includes an NFC antenna communicatively coupled to the motor controller and mounted such that an antenna range of the NFC antenna extends on an exterior of the electric machine housing. The NFC antenna is configured to receive a signal relating to a user command from a handheld device and relay the signal to the motor controller. The motor controller is configured to adjust an operational parameter of the motor based at least partially on the user command.

Antenna for communicating with a motor

An electric machine includes a motor assembly including a motor controller including an NFC tuned circuit. The electric machine also includes a motor housing defining an interior space and enclosing the motor assembly within the interior space. The electric machine further includes an electric machine housing. The motor housing is enclosed within the electric machine housing. The electric machine also includes an NFC antenna mounted within the electric machine housing and configured to emit a magnetic field at a selected frequency. The magnetic field is configured to induce an electric current in the NFC tuned circuit. The electric machine further includes a memory configured to store information included in signals transmitted between the NFC antenna and the NFC tuned circuit via the magnetic field.

A converter module for converting three-phase electrical power to single-phase electrical power. The converter module includes three-phase terminals and a full-wave bridge rectifier. The three-phase terminals are configured to be electrically coupled to a three-phase power source from which a three-phase power signal is provided. The full-wave bridge rectifier is electrically coupled to the three-phase terminals and configured to rectify the three-phase power signal to a direct current (DC) power signal.

Three-phase to single-phase converter module for electrically commutated motors

A system for communicating with a motor includes an NFC antenna coupled to a motor assembly and configured to receive signals from a motor controller. The NFC antenna is configured to emit a magnetic field at a selected frequency. The system also includes a communication interface configured to relay the signals from the NFC antenna to a handheld device.

An electric motor assembly includes an electric motor, a casing configured to house the motor, and an electrical enclosure coupled to the motor casing. The electrical enclosure houses a control board including a microcontroller and a memory device therein. The microcontroller is configured to control the electric motor based at least in part on motor configuration data stored in the memory device. The assembly also includes a near field communications (NFC) antenna positioned adjacent to an opening defined in the motor casing or the electronics enclosure, and is communicatively coupled to the memory device. The NFC antenna is configured to: receive a radio signal transmitted by an external programming device, the radio signal including updated motor configuration data; convert the radio signal to an electrical signal that includes the updated motor configuration data; and transmit the electrical signal to the memory device to store the updated motor configuration data.

NFC antenna for communicating with a motor and method of manufacturing and using same

A motor control system for heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) applications is described. The motor control system includes a thermostat and an electronically commutated motor (ECM) coupled to the thermostat. The ECM is configured to retrofit an existing non-ECM electric motor included in an HVAC application and to operate in one of a plurality of HVAC modes. The HVAC modes include at least one of a heating mode, a cooling mode, and a continuous fan mode. The HVAC mode is determined based at least partially on outputs provided by the thermostat.

Retrofit motor system for heating, ventilation, and air conditioning applications

A system includes an electric motor controller configured to be coupled to an electric motor is provided. The controller includes a first power input, a second power input, and a third power input, each of the first, second, and third power inputs are configured to receive power from an alternating current (AC) power source. The controller also includes a microcontroller configured to generate a radio frequency (RF) signal in each of the first, second, and third power inputs. The controller further includes an RF based line sensing device configured to sense which one of said first, second, and third power inputs has received power from the AC power source based on the RF signal.

An EMI filter is described. The filter includes an input, an output, first and second line-side X capacitors, and a line-side Y capacitor. The input includes first and second input terminals. The output includes first and second output terminals. A first conductive path is defined between the first input terminal and the first output terminal. A second conductive path is defined between the second input terminal and the second output terminal. The first line-side X capacitor is coupled between the first conductive path and the second conductive path, and the second line-side X capacitor is coupled between the first conductive path and the second conductive path in series with the first line-side X capacitor. The second line-side X capacitor is coupled to the first line-side X capacitor at a common point. A first end of the line-side Y capacitor is coupled to the common point.

Methods and systems for reducing conducted electromagnetic interference

A core loss tester employs separate cables for excitation and pickup. Testing is performed at a fixed flux density in the ferromagnetic core. A processing circuit on the output of the pickup coil scales the voltage developed so that, when excitation current is increased so that the indicated output of the pickup coil equals the effective cross-sectional area of the flux path, the fixed predetermined value of flux density is produced. When this condition is achieved, the excitation current times the sensed flux-induced voltage provides a measurement of the core loss in watts. Excitation is accomplished with a multi-conductor cable looped once or more times through the core with the conductors in the cable connected in series by mating together of a connector at each end.
