A method and system, according to one embodiment of the present invention, provide a means to securely store odometer information in an automobile. A distance traveled by the automobile is calculated. The distance traveled is then stored in both a first and second memory unit within the automobile.

Method and system for securely storing odometer information in an automobile

In a holographic heads-up display, a first set of data and a second set of data are provided. A three-dimensional image or scenery displaying the first set of data in a first layer and the second set of data in a second layer are created. The first layer is separated from the second layer by a specified distance. A hologram is determined, which corresponds to a recording of the scenery via a reference beam. A plurality of controllable phase delay elements are set according to the determined hologram. The hologram is reconstructed by illuminating the plurality of phase delay elements using a coherent light source. The light of the reconstructed hologram is directed into the visual field of a driver via a wind screen of a vehicle.

Holographic information display

The invention generally relates to an integrated head up displaying (HUD) device including a housing that houses an active-matrix image projecting system and its accompanying electronics, and an optical combiner (for providing a see-through image thereon) connected to the housing via a retractable arm attached at one end to the main body and holds the HUD optical panel at its other end. In particular, the telescopically retractable arm allows the assembly to extend or retract for a desirable combiner height. Further, the LED backlighting array is placed within a reflective light chamber which is lined with a safe, light-weight, low cost, specular, reflective sheet for high reflectivity. The non-conductive, reflective sheet also covers the LED printed circuit board.

Universal vehicle head up display (HUD) device and method for using the same

A head-up display for a vehicle, the display is capable of projecting an imaging illumination from an image source and a night vision display from a night vision source. The display utilizes a beam-splitter which receives the projected image illumination and night vision display and the beam-splitter directs a combined output to a mirror and a combiner for producing a virtual image in front of the eyes of a vehicle operator.

Combined head-up display

An instrument cluster assembly includes a light source for emitting black light and an instrument cluster display including at least one graphic feature that is illuminable by black light. The invisible black light illuminates only the graphic features when contacted by the black light from the light source without illuminating the surrounding portions of the instrument cluster display. Preferably, the light source includes first and second light sources positioned on opposite sides of the instrument cluster display. The light sources are each a single bulb for emitting ultraviolet light. The light sources are positioned between reflectors and the instrument cluster display such that the reflectors are positioned for redirecting black light initially emitted towards the reflector onto the instrument cluster display. The graphic features are preferably made of a phosphoric material.

Glare and spurious reflections of external light on the image source of a head up display are eliminated by a circular polarizer in the optical path of the display. The head up display includes a mirror system for projecting a pattern from the image source onto a vehicle windshield where it is reflected to the operator, wherein polarization is effected at the windshield reflection. The circular polarizer includes a linear polarizer and a quarter wave plate arranged to extinguish the external incident light after reflection from the image source. The linear polarizer axis is aligned with the polarization axis at the windshield to optimize the brightness of the display.

A display apparatus includes an image source displaying information and a magnifying mirror element reflecting the displayed information and projecting one or more images thereof viewable by the operator in one or more focal planes, the mirror element being partially light transmissive. A display data source is also provided so that, in a first mode, the display data is not visible and in a second mode the display data is visible to the operator through the mirror. A motor mechanism is operable to pivot the display between a stowed position and an unstowed operational position.

A display apparatus includes an image source displaying information and a magnifying mirror element reflecting the displayed information and projecting one or more images thereof viewable by the operator in one or more focal planes, the mirror element being partially light transmissive. A display data source is also provided so that, in a first mode, the display data is not visible and in a second mode the display data is visible to the operator through the mirror.
