An exemplary optical limiter device () has an optically transmissive substrate () and a layer () on a first surface () of the substrate, the layer having a trimetallic nitride endohedral metallofullerene. The layer can be a thin film of the trimetallic nitride endohedral metallofullerene, a layer material with a cavity containing a solution with the trimetallic nitride endohedral metallofullerene, a sol-gel with a trimetallic nitride endohedral metallofullerene, and a self assembled monolayer with a trimetallic nitride endohedral metallofullerene. The layers of trimetallic nitride endohedral metallofullerenes can be vapor deposited, solution deposited and/or self assembled onto optical components. The third-order nonlinear properties of these films provide desired transmission characteristics.

Optical limiter having trimetallic nitride endohedral metallofullerence films

The present invention is directed toward a tunable dielectric device comprising: a substrate and an endohedral fullerene encapsulating trimetallic nitride template compound disposed on the substrate. The endohedral fullerene encapsulating trimetallic nitride template compound has a dipole moment that is oriented when a voltage of less than about 5 volts is applied thereto causing a change in the orientation of the dipole moment of the compound. The physical dimension of the compound is essentially unchanged.

Tunable dielectric device and process relating thereto

A method for imagining and treating a body employing at least one trimetallic nitride template endohedral metallofullerene compound is disclosed. The compound has at least one diagnostic and at least one treatment atom encapsulated within a fullerene cage. The two atoms are different from each other. The compound is administered into a body, traced, and allowed to react at a targeted area of the body.

A family of trimetallic nitride endohedral metallofullerenes and their preparation are described. The trimetallic nitride endohedral metallofullerenes have the general formula A,X,&commat;C,where n ranges from 0 to 3, A and X may be trivalent metals and may be either rare earth metal or group IIIB metals, and m is between about 60 and about 200. Further, the A,X,&commat;C,, A,X,&commat;C,, A,X,&commat;C,families of endohedral fullerenes are described. The trimetallic nitride endohedral metallofullerenes are produced by charging a reactor with a cored graphite rod that has been filled with a metal oxide graphite mixture. The metal oxides correspond to the metals for A and X. The graphite rod is arc discharged in a helium and nitrogen atmosphere to produce the desired trimetallic nitride endohedral metallofullerenes.

Endohedral metallofullerenes and method for making the same

Apparatus for conveniently and safely weighing and measuring infants including a cloth bed with a foldable peripheral frame divided into a head section, central body section, and foot section which fold upon each other. A folding head panel is secured to the head portion of the frame to place the infant's head against for measuring length by means of a measuring tape running along the longitudinal axis of the top of bed surface. An extensible end section is provided for larger infants. The bed is detachably suspended by three pairs of cords removably secured to a digital scale for weighing in pounds and grams. Included is separate measuring tape for determining the circumference of the infant's head, torso and other desired measurements.
