A magnetic deflection amplifier implemented using a linear amplifier connected to a first side of a deflection coil and a three pole switch connected to a second side of the deflection coil. The three pole switch connects the coil to ground during the active scan and connects the coil to a positive or negative high voltage rail depending of the polarity of the retrace current resulting in fast retrace time and reduced voltage requirements on the linear amplifier.

A system and method to improve the quality of reproduced images on a film to video transfer device by scanning extra lines to reduce vertical aliasing and performing vertical sample rate reduction to produce the correct number of video output lines High frequency noise is reduced as a result of the vertical sample rate reduction which produces a line filtering. More lines are scanned than normal and the distance between lines is reduced so that the larger number of lines covers the original film image area. This has the effect of increasing the sampling frequency in the vertical direction and therefore reducing aliasing. To provide the correct number of lines in the output of the film to video sample, rate reduction is performed. Sample rate reduction is performed by filtering multiple adjacent lines to remove any high frequency content that would be aliased at the lower rate. Lines are discarded in a predefined sequence that is a function of the fractional reduction rate.

System and method to improve the quality of reproduced images on a film

A cathode ray tube non-sequential raster scanning method maintains a more uniform screen luminescence. This raster scanning method scans and stores electrical signals representing the locations of non-sequential blocks of adjacent raster lines or reordered individual raster lines from a cathode ray tube in a temporary storage apparatus. A programmable controller associated with the cathode ray tube and the temporary storage apparatus reorders the stored raster line location and selectively deflects the cathode ray beam. Analog or digital film-to-video transfer systems incorporating a cathode ray tube having non-sequential raster scanning are also described. A method of variable raster scanning for a weave correcting film-to-video transfer system is also disclosed.

Non-sequential raster scanning apparatus and method

A weave correction system for the transfer of film to video or video to film operable in real time is disclosed. The digital real time registration weave correction system includes: a high powered deflection system and low inductance yoke in conjunction with a cathode ray tube (CRT), and digital circuitry operable to detect the crossing of a light beam generated by the CRT over the edge of a film sprocket hole. The digital real time registration weave correction system is operable in conjunction with a standard telecine. An analog real time registration weave correction system is also disclosed.

Real time registration weave correction system

Circuitry for selectively reducing noise which results from film granularity, circuitry imperfections and other sources of random signal degradation by averaging, non-recursively, between 2 and 9 frames of digitized video information. By such averaging, since the noise is random, it is filtered out leaving only the desired picture. The averaging is performed only on areas of the picture which are close in both amplitude and color in adjacent frames. In this connection, in cases where there is no motion or scene change between adjacent frames, the entire picture corresponding to such frames can be processed according to the present invention.
