A high melt strength resin composition includes at least a) non-functionalized polypropylene, b) at least one acrylate such as zinc diacrylate, calcium diacrylate or aluminum triacrylate in a total amount of from 0.1 to 5% by weight based on the weight of non-functionalized polypropylene, and c) at least one acid neutralizer in a total amount of from 0.005 to 5% by weight based on the total weight of the at least one acrylate. The resin composition is compounded at a processing temperature between 185&#xb0; C. and 260&#xb0; C. to obtain the high melt strength polypropylene.

High melt strength polypropylene and process of preparation thereof

A laminate and a process for making it are disclosed. The laminate comprises a metal substrate and a polymer layer that adheres to at least one plasma-treated surface of the metal substrate. The polymer layer comprises a blend of a first polyolefin and a grafted polyolefin. The laminate can be prepared by plasma-treating at least one surface of a metal substrate and extruding onto the plasma-treated surface a polymer layer comprising a blend of a first polyolefin and a grafted polyolefin.

A gypsum composition comprising water, stucco, clay, an amine compound, a polyoxyalkylene, and a comb-branched copolymer is disclosed. The gypsum composition has improved fluidity. A method for preparing the gypsum composition is also disclosed. The method comprises mixing the components to form a slurry, casting the slurry into a product, and drying the product.

The present invention relates to polyolefin compositions that incorporate an acrylic/polyether comb-branched copolymer, articles made from the compositions, such as polyolefin films and polyolefin fibers, and methods for making the compositions and the articles.

Polyolefin compositions

A gypsum composition containing a sulfonate-containing comb-branched copolymer is disclosed. The sulfonate-containing comb-branched copolymer comprises recurring units of a polyether macromonomer, an acrylic monomer, and a sulfonate monomer. The sulfonate-containing comb-branched copolymer not only increases the fluidity of gypsum slurry but also has reduced retardation on the gypsum setting.

Preparation of gypsum compositions

A gypsum composition suitable for use in the manufacture of gypsum products is provided. The gypsum composition includes gypsum, water, and a solid dispersant comprising a supported acrylic/polyether comb-branched copolymer. A method of making a gypsum composition is also provided. The method includes mixing together, in any combination, gypsum, water, and a solid dispersant comprising a supported acrylic/polyether comb-branched copolymer.

Solid supported comb-branched copolymers as an additive for gypsum compositions

A pigment dispersion suitable for use in the manufacture of pigmented coating compositions is provided. The pigment dispersion comprises a) pigment, b) carrier, and c) an acrylic/polyether comb-branched copolymer dispersant wherein the polyether portion of the copolymer is free of any acidic groups. A method of making a present dispersion is also provided. The method comprises mixing together, in any combination: a) pigment, b) carrier, and c) an acrylic/polyether comb-branched copolymer dispersant wherein the polyether portion of the copolymer is free of any acidic groups. A pigmented coating composition is also provided comprising a pigment dispersion made in accordance with present invention.

Use of comb-branched copolymers as pigment dispersants

A gypsum composition suitable for use in the manufacture of construction materials is provided. The gypsum composition includes gypsum, water, and a dispersant formulation comprising an acrylic/polyether comb-branched copolymer. A method of making a gypsum composition is also provided. The method includes mixing together, in any combination, gypsum, water, and a dispersant formulation comprising an acrylic/polyether comb-branched copolymer. A wallboard is provided including two sheets of board paper, and a gypsum core between the sheets of board paper.

Use of comb-branched copolymers in gypsum compositions

A liquid laundry detergent formulation is described including a surfactant, a polycarboxylate builder and a 2-methyl-1,3-propanediol carrier solvent. A particularly preferred builder comprises a non-hydrophobically modified, acrylic/polyether comb-branched copolymer, wherein the polyether portion comprises moieties derived from at least two constituents selected from the group consisting of ethylene oxide, propylene oxide, and butylene oxide. Preferably, the comb-branched copolymer is made according to a process selected from the group consisting of: (i) copolymerizing an unsaturated macromonomer with at least one ethylenically unsaturated comonomer selected from the group consisting of carboxylic acids, carboxylic acid salts, hydroxyalkyl esters of carboxylic acids, and carboxylic acid anhydrides, and (ii) reacting a carboxylic acid polymer and a polyether prepared by polymerizing a C -C epoxide, wherein the carboxylic acid polymer and the polyether are reacted under conditions effective to achieve partial cleavage of the polyether and esterification of the polyether and cleavage products thereof by the carboxylic acid polymer.

Use of 2-methyl-1, 3-propanediol and polycarboxylate builders in laundry detergents

Cementitious compositions are prepared using a dry, flowable admixture containing an ester of carbonic acid such as propylene carbonate and a solid, particulate support which is non-reactive toward the ester such as silica fume. Such admixtures accelerate the set and increase the thixotropy of unhardened mixtures containing hydraulic cement and water, yet can be readily handled and stored in stable form until ready to be used.
