A towing device operably provided on a trailer for powering and controlling the trailer. The towing device has an actuator operably connected with the trailer during a towing operation. The towing device also has at least one switch provided in the actuator and operable to variably control at least one motor/generator provided on the trailer. The at least one switch is also operable to send a first signal to the at least one motor/generator via a first force exerted on the actuator by a vehicle, and wherein a first torque is applied to at least one wheel on the trailer via the at least one motor/generator being operably engaged with the at least one wheel. In addition, the towing device may include a controller operably connected to the at least one switch and to the at least one motor/generator, to control the torque applied by the at least one motor/generator.

Safety and control system for use when pulling trailers

A conductor winding tool configured to stow a flexible electrical conductor, such as a conductor attached to an automotive battery charger. The tool includes a handle that is configured to be grasped by a human hand and a body defining an aperture through which the flexible electrical conductor passes. The tool is used to stow the flexible electrical conductor by winding the flexible electrical conductor into a storage device, such as a spool, reel, or storage bag.

A right-angled electrical plug includes a first plug terminal and a second plug terminal longitudinally spaced apart from one another. First and second electrical wires are interconnected with the first and second plug terminals respectively. A housing configured to secure the first and second plug terminals has a generally planar surface from which the first and second plug terminals project and has a portal through which the first and second electrical wires exit the housing. The surface has a first lateral edge that is closer to the portal than a second lateral edge opposite the first lateral edge. A first distance between the first lateral edge and the first plug terminal is at least two times less, and is preferably is at least three time less, than a second distance between the second lateral edge and the second plug terminal. The right-angled electrical plug may conform to NEMA 5-15P standards.

An electrical plug includes a first, second, and third plug terminal, and a terminal retainer configured to secure the first, second, and third plug terminals within the electrical plug. The first, second, and third plug terminal are attached to a first, second, and third electrical wire respectively. The terminal retainer defines a flexible structure in which the first plug terminal is secured, thereby allowing the first plug terminal to move independently of the second and third plug terminals. The flexible structure may be in the form of a cantilever beam, wherein the first plug terminal is secured in a location proximate a free end of the cantilever beam. The terminal retainer consists of a single piece of injection molded plastic. The electrical plug may be part of an electrical vehicle battery charger.

An electrical outlet wall plate includes a plate having an outer surface, an inner surface, and a peripheral edge. The outlet wall plate defines a socket opening configured to receive an electrical outlet socket and defining a fastener opening configured to receive a fastener configured to secure the outlet wall plate to the outlet socket. The outlet wall plate further includes a plug stabilizing feature having an inner wall, an outer wall, and a top wall. The plug stabilizing feature projects from the outer surface of the plate and at least partially surrounding a perimeter of the socket opening. The outlet wall plate limits lateral and vertical movement of the plug terminals in the socket and protects the operator from inadvertent contact with plug terminals the as the plug is inserted into the socket.

An electrical connector assembly is presented. The electrical connector assembly includes an electrical socket terminal having a frustoconical body that defines a first cylindrical cavity configured to receive a corresponding electrical plug terminal. The frustoconical body defines a plurality of axially slots extending to the first cylindrical cavity. The terminal further includes a cylindrical member extending from the frustoconical body. The cylindrical member defines a circumferential flange extending from an outer surface of the cylindrical member. The electrical connector assembly also includes a terminal cartridge formed of a dielectric material and defining a generally U-shaped slot having an open end, a closed end, two side walls, and a floor. The U-shaped slot is configured to receive the circumferential flange of the socket terminal. The floor defines a locking protrusion configured to contact the flange and retain the socket terminal within the U-shaped slot.

An electrical adapter assembly including an adapter housing, an electrical receptacle defined by a first technical standard that is disposed within a first face of the adapter housing. The receptacle is configured to receive a first electrical plug defined by the first technical standard. The electrical adapter assembly also includes a second electrical plug defined by a second technical standard projecting from a second face of the adapter housing and electrically interconnected to the electrical receptacle and a thermally conductive member disposed within the adapter housing and projecting from the first face of the adapter housing. The electrical adapter assembly also contains features for detecting a connection of the electrical adapter assembly to the first plug.

A shield terminal engageable with a shield of an electrical cable includes a first member having a first contact surface inclined at an acute angle relative to a longitudinal axis of the terminal and a second member having a second contact surface inclined at an acute angle relative to the longitudinal axis of the terminal. When the shield terminal is attached to the shield the first and second contact surfaces engage the shield. The second contact surface of the second member is disposed adjacent the first contact surface of the first member. A distance between the second contact surface and the first contact surface is less than a thickness of the shield.

A shielded electric cable assembly comprises a shielded electric cable and a shielded electric connector that has an inner terminal, an insulator and an outer shielding terminal. The inner terminal has an attachment portion that is supported on a projecting anvil of the insulator that is disposed in an intermediate bay of the outer shielding terminal. The bay has an opening for a crimp tool that crimps the attachment portion of the inner terminal onto an exposed end of a conductive core of the shielded electric cable. The intermediate bay is closed by side wall flaps of the intermediate bay or by a closure shell. The crimp tool that may be part of the insulator.

Electrical arc suppression when terminals under load are connected/unconnected is provided via an applied magnetic field causing the arc path to be lengthened, with the consequences that the voltage necessary for the arc to be sustained is increased and the arc energy is decreased. In a preferred form, at least one magnet with a high permeability flux return path is placed adjacent the terminal proximity zone of initial/final touching of mating terminals. The magnetic field increases the arc length, and thereby suppresses the arc by increasing the voltage necessary to sustain the arc and decreasing the energy of the arc.

Generally, the invention includes a connector system for making an electrical connection between a flexible circuit and a printed circuit board. The printed circuit board or semi-conductor device has contact pads for mating with the electrical traces of the flexible circuit. A mounting bar is provided and a leaf spring(s) secured thereto. The electrical traces of the flexible circuit that are aligned and overlie the leaf spring(s). Posts extend upward from the mounting bar, and the printed circuit board has slotted through holes formed therein for receiving the post. The posts of the mounting bar are inserted into the printed circuit board through holes and force is applied to the mounting bar to compress the spring(s). The flexible circuit/mounting bar assembly is then slid into the slots of the printed circuit board causing the flexible circuits contacts to wipe and come to rest in alignment with the printed circuit board contact pads.
