Various embodiments of the present disclosure provide methods of making wellbore fluids with enhanced electrical conductivities. In some embodiments, such methods comprise: (1) pre-treating a carbon material with an acid; and (2) adding the carbon material to the wellbore fluid. Further embodiments of the present disclosure pertain to wellbore fluids formed by the methods of the present disclosure. Additional embodiments of the present disclosure pertain to methods for logging a subterranean well by utilizing the aforementioned wellbore fluids.

Carbonaceous nanoparticles as conductivity enhancement additives to water-in-oil emulsions, oil-in-water emulsions and oil-based wellbore fluids

A composition that includes a product resulting from a condensation reaction of quebracho with at least one organophilic species that includes a reactive amine is disclosed.

Fluid loss additive for oil-based muds

A method of forming a subterranean well and a method of reducing the swelling of shale clay during the drilling of the subterranean well. The method features the use of a water based drilling fluid, wherein the drilling fluid is formulated to include: an aqueous based continuous phase; a weight material; an optional shale hydration inhibition agent and a shale encapsulator. The shale encapsulator has the formula: in which x and y have a value so that the molecular weight of the cation is in the range of about 10,000 to about 200,000 AMU; A is selected from C-Calkyl, C-Cether or C-Camide; R, R'and R&#x2033;are independently selectable C-Calkyl; and Bis a charge balancing anion to the quaternary amine. The shale hydration inhibition agent and the shale encapsulator may be present in sufficient concentrations to reduce the swelling of the subterranean formation in the presence of water. Conventional additives may be included into the formulation of the drilling fluid, including: fluid loss control agents, alkaline reserve and other pH control agents, bridging agents, lubricants, anti-bit balling agents, corrosion inhibition agents, surfactants, solids suspending agents, and mixtures and combinations of these and other similar additives.

High performance water-based drilling mud and method of use

A water based drilling fluid for use in drilling a subterranean well through a subterranean formation that swells in the presence of water, the drilling fluid is formulated to include: an aqueous based continuous phase; a weigh material; a shale encapsulator and an optional shale hydration inhibition agent. The shale encapsulator has the formula: which x and y have a value so that the molecular weight of the cation is in the range of about 10,000 to about 200,000 AMU; A is selected from C&#x2013;Calkyl, C&#x2013;Cether or amide; R, R' and R&#x2033; are independently selectable C&#x2013;Calkyl; and Bis a charge balancing anion to the quaternary amine. The shale encapsulator and the optional shale hydration inhibition agent may be present in sufficient concentrations to reduce the swelling of the subterranean formation in the presence of water. Conventional additives may be included into the formulation of the drilling fluid, such conventional additives may include: fluid loss control agents, alkaline reserve and other pH control agents, bridging agents, lubricants, anti-bit balling agents, corrosion inhibition agents, surfactants and solids suspending agents as well as mixtures and combination of these and similar compounds that should be known to one of skill in the art.
