An example method of reducing short circuits from occurring in a battery can include providing a current collector coated with a safety layer. The method can include providing an electrochemically active material film on the safety layer such that the safety layer is configured to reduce exposure of the current collector to an opposing electrode. The method can also include adhering the electrochemically active material film to the current collector via the safety layer.

Electrodes and methods of forming electrodes are described herein. The electrode can be an electrode of an electrochemical cell or battery. The electrode includes a current collector and a film in electrical communication with the current collector. The film may include a carbon phase that holds the film together. The electrode further includes an electrode attachment substance that adheres the film to the current collector.

A method for producing a multi-layer bipolar coated cell according to one embodiment includes applying a first active cathode material above a substrate to form a first cathode; applying a first solid-phase ionically-conductive electrolyte material above the first cathode to form a first electrode separation layer; applying a first active anode material above the first electrode separation layer to form a first anode; applying an electrically conductive barrier layer above the first anode; applying a second active cathode material above the anode material to form a second cathode; applying a second solid-phase ionically-conductive electrolyte material above the second cathode to form a second electrode separation layer; applying a second active anode material above the second electrode separation layer to form a second anode; and applying a metal material above the second anode to form a metal coating section. In another embodiment, the anode is formed prior to the cathode. Cells are also disclosed.

Multi-layer coatings for bipolar rechargeable batteries with enhanced terminal voltage

A method and apparatus are disclosed in which the apparatus has a hopper and a tube secured to the hopper, the tube having an opening between distal and proximal end portions thereof. The apparatus may have a second tube secured to the first tube at the opening, and the second tube may extend substantially vertically downward. The lower end of the second tube may be aligned to terminate at a vertical level that is substantially equal to a vertical level of an opening in the distal end portion of the first tube. A Y-shaped tube may be secured to the distal end of the first tube to further distribute the grain. In use, grain is introduced into the hopper, and a first portion is passed to a first tube. The first portion of grain is divided into second and third portions, the second portion is passed through a second tube, and the third portion is passed to a distal end of the first tube. The third portion may be further divided into fourth and fifth portions within a third tube, and the grain may be discharged from each such tube at substantially the same height. Grain may be introduced to form piles until the peak of each such pile reaches a desired, substantially equal height, at which time the grain may be leveled within the container and the process repeated.

Method and apparatus for distributing particles such as grain

An electrical cable management device for use in mining and other applications where there are size restrictions on equipment. The device is a round stationary drum, around which travels a carriage for winding, unwinding and storing hot electrical cable. The device is mounted on skids and is portable and can be located away from the mining activity while still being able to manage and control the winding and unwinding of electrical cable in response to movement of the mining equipment. The device does not require electrical split ring connectors, rotating collector rings, brushes or the like, but provides a continuous cable from a power source to the moveable mining equipment. The orbiting carriage is driven by an electric motor for winding cable and automatically becomes free wheeling when cable is unwound from the drum.
