A telecommunications (telecom) system providing communications for remote cellular transceivers includes a core network and at least one telecom support unit mounted to a respective structure and providing communications connectivity between the cellular transceivers and the core network. The telecom support unit includes a housing, a powerline interface, a communication interface, and a load-side power metering circuit. The powerline interface is configured though a boundary of the housing and connectable to an external power source. The communication interface is operable to provide communicative coupling to one or more of the remote cellular transceivers and may be configured through a second boundary of the housing. The load-side power metering circuit is operable to meter power consumed by at least the telecom support unit. When configured for connection to a streetlight, the telecom support unit may further include a clamp to enable mechanical coupling of the housing to the streetlight's support structure.

Streetlight-based telecommunications system and support unit for use therein

A wireless communication node employs a method for configuring its donor and service antennas at or after node installation. The antennas are positioned in a predetermined arrangement about a central axis. The node includes the antennas, an actuator, one or more processors, and a memory storing processor-executable instructions for the processor(s). Responsive to the stored instructions, the processor processes wireless signals received by the donor antenna and communicates control signals to the actuator to rotate the donor and service antennas as a group about the central axis. Rotation may be incremental based on whether the donor antenna received an acceptable base station signal at a previous angular displacement increment or may be comprehensive to permit receipt of candidate base station data for a predetermined amount of rotation. After an acceptable base station is identified, the donor antenna's beam pattern may be formed in a direction of the identified base station.

Wireless communication node and method for configuring donor and service antennas therefor

A telecommunications (telecom) system includes cellular transceivers, a core network, and at least one streetlight-mountable telecom support unit providing communications connectivity between the cellular transceivers and the core network. The cellular transceivers may be mounted to other streetlights. The telecom support unit includes a housing mountable to streetlight, a powerline interface, and a communication interface. The powerline interface is integrated or configured though a boundary structure of the housing and connectable to a complementary powerline interface of the streetlight. The communication interface provides communicative coupling to one or more of the remote cellular transceivers and may be configured through a second boundary structure of the housing. The telecom support unit may also include a clamp configured to enable mechanical coupling of the housing to a support structure of the streetlight. The telecom support unit may further include a microcontroller arranged to control operations of at least the streetlight.

A telecommunications (telecom) system includes remote radio head devices, a core network, and at least one telecom support unit providing communications connectivity between the remote radio head devices and the core network. The telecom support unit includes a housing, a clamp mechanically coupling the housing to a support structure for a streetlight, a powerline interface, and a high-bandwidth communication medium. The powerline interface is integrated or configured though a first wall of the housing and electromechanically coupled to a luminaire of the streetlight so as to receive utility power from the luminaire. The high-bandwidth communication medium interface is integrated or configured through a second wall of the housing and communicatively coupled to the remote radio head devices. The remote radio head devices may be mounted to one or more other streetlights. The telecom support unit may operate as a baseband device and/or a cellular data repeater device.
