An article of clothing includes a sensor attached to a fabric body for detecting forces applied to the fabric body. A processor is attached to the fabric body and is communicatively coupled to the sensor. The processor receives signals from the sensor, analyzes the signals, and discerns therefrom whether a physical attack is occurring on a wearer of the fabric body. The processor emits a distress signal if it is discerned that an attack is occurring.

A method for tracking the object includes providing a motion detector on a first radio frequency device and detecting the motion of the first radio frequency device, transmitting radio frequency location signals from the first radio frequency device to a second radio frequency device with time intervals between the transmissions, decreasing the time intervals between the transmissions from the first radio frequency device to the second radio frequency device in response to the detection of motion by the motion detector, and periodically determining a separation distance between the first radio frequency device and the second radio frequency device based on the radio frequency location signals transmitted from the first radio frequency device to the second radio frequency device.

A door position detecting apparatus comprises a switch including a body having two electrical contacts and a through-channel. The through-channel of the switch receives a hinge pin inserted therethrough and further inserted into a door hinge. Two lever arms extend from the body. Each of the arms is attached to a respective one of the electrical contacts. The arms have a first position relative to each other wherein the contacts are electrically connected to each other, and a second position relative to each other wherein the contacts are electrically disconnected from each other. Biasing means biases the arms against a fixed door jamb and a rotatable door, respectively, such that one of the arms follows movement of the rotatable door from an open position of the door to a closed position of the door. Monitoring means monitors whether the contacts are electrically connected to each other.

A method for detecting a position of a door includes providing a switch having a body with two electrical contacts and a through-channel. Two lever arms extend from the body. Each of the arms is attached to a respective one of the electrical contacts. The arms have a first position relative to each other wherein the contacts are electrically connected to each other, and a second position relative to each other wherein the contacts are electrically disconnected from each other. A hinge pin is inserted through the through-channel of the switch and is also inserted into a door hinge. The arms are biased against a doorjamb and the door, respectively. It is monitored whether the contacts are electrically connected to each other.

A security system includes a sensor for sensing a presence of an intruder within a protected space. A genetic sample-gathering mechanism takes a genetic sample from the intruder in response to a signal from the sensor.

A method for providing power to a low current electronic device includes pivotably coupling a door to a door frame. A rotating member of an alternating current generator is coupled to either the edge surface of the door or the door-facing surface of the door frame. A stationary member of an alternating current generator is coupled to an other of the edge surface of the door and the door-facing surface of the door frame. The door is pivoted toward an open position to thereby rotate the rotating member and generate an alternating current. The door is pivoted toward a closed position to thereby rotate the rotating member and generate an alternating current.

A method of operating a security system includes activating a security device and transmitting a first status report from the device in response to the activating step. A second status report is transmitted from the device after the first status report has been transmitted. The second status report is indicative of a status of an input of the security device. It is determined whether the first status report indicates a status different than the status indicated by the second status report. A third status report is transmitted from the device after the second status report has been transmitted. The third status report is indicative of the input of the security device being in an alarm condition and/or a trouble condition. Dependent upon whether the first status report indicates a status different than the status indicated by the second status report, an alarm and/or a trouble warning are issued in response to the third status report.
