An electrode providing electrical contact with a patient's skin includes a conductive member adapted for connection to an external electrical apparatus and a non-liquid water containing film for electrically interfacing to said patient's skin, the non-liquid film being electrically and mechanically connected to said conductive member. The non-liquid water containing film includes an electrically conductive organic polymer plasticized with a polyhydric alcohol with said organic polymer being derived from a monomeric mixture comprising from about 2 to 30 pph acrylic acid, 2 to 30 pph of a glycolvinylether and 0.01 to 1.5 pph of a crosslinking agent. Preferably the polyhydric alcohol is glycerol.

Medical electrode

A medical sensor electrode includes an electrically conductive adhesive for establishing electrical contact with a mammalian body to enable the electrode to monitor physiological electrode potentials from the body. A first sensor element includes a flexible electrically conductive plate disposed on the conductive adhesive with the plate having substantial smaller dimension that the dimension of the conductive adhesive. A second sensor element includes an electrical conductive member disposed over the first sensor element and adhesive. The conductive member includes a non-conductive sheet coated with multiple layers of a metal and metal halide. A non-conductive backing is disposed over the second sensor element and conductive adhesive with the backing and the second sensor element having apertures for providing access to the first sensor element. A lead wire is connected to the first sensor element through the backing and the second sensor element and a non-conductive label is disposed over the backing apparatus and end of the lead wire.

A compress garment for application to a body generally includes a member sized and shaped for positioning onto a body when in position conforms to and supports a body shape. A least one, preferably a multiple number of access windows disposed in the garment member for enabling dermal application and removal of a medical electrode. The access windows are located on the garment member at positions enabling access to pre-selected dermal areas.

An electrical stimulation device method provides for exact repeatable positioning of stimulation pads onto a body part. The device includes a flexible member for contacting a body part and hook/loop members for tightly supporting the flexible member against the body part. At least one electrical bus is provided which may include a connector for enabling connection of the bus to an electrical lead wire and an electrical contact disposed on the inside of the flexible member. A conductive pad is provided which has dimensions substantially smaller than the dimensions of the flexible member and includes a cover adhesive layer for removably adhering the conductive pad to the flexible member inside with a first side of the cover layer covering the bus contact and an electrical communication therewith. A current controlling media is adhered to a second side of the cover layer and a base layer disposed on the current controlling media is provided for removably adhering the conductive pad to the body part.

A dermal fastener includes a first adhesive for adherence to an article and a second adhesive for adherence to skin. The second adhesive is a non-liquid water containing film including an organic polymer plasticized with a polyhydric alcohol with the organic polymer being derived from a monomeric mixture including from about 2 to about 30 pph acrylic acid to about 1 to about 30 pph of a glycolvinylether and about 0.01 to about 1.5 pph of a crosslinking agent. The first and second adhesives may also be disposed on opposite sides of a membrane if partition of fluid components in the adhesives is desired.

An electrode provides electrical contact with a patient's skin with the electrode including a conductive member for connection to an external electrical apparatus and multilayers of gel for providing electrical interface between the patient's skin and the conductive member. A first layer is provided which includes an electrically conductive gel having a relatively low peel strength for removably contacting the patient's skin and a second layer is provided which includes an electrically conductive gel having a relatively high peel strength for contacting the conductive member. The first and second layers are laminated in accordance with the method of the invention. Other layers may be utilized in combination with the first and second layers. Such layers include a scrim layer and a layer including physiologically active ions. Further, the electrode through the use of multilayer gels is suitable for use with garments for the selective positioning of electrodes to a patient's skin.

An electrode providing electrical contact with a patient's skin includes a conductive member adapted for connection to an external electrical apparatus and a non-liquid film for electrically interfacing to said patient's skin, the liquid film being electrically and mechanically connected to said conductive member. The non-liquid film includes an electrically conductive organic polymer plasticized with a polyhydric alcohol with said organic polymer being derived from a monomeric mixture comprising from about 15 to 30 pph acrylic acid, 0.5 to 30 pph N-vinylpyrrolidone and 0.01 to 2 pph of a crosslinking agent. The monomeric mixture may further comprise from about 0.5 to 8 pph of a thickening agent selected from the group consisting of N-vinylpyrrolidone/acrylic acid copolymers and N-vinylpyrrolidone/vinylacetate.
