In one embodiment, a network element comprises one or more processors, and a memory module communicatively coupled to the processor. The memory module comprises logic instructions which, when executed by the processor, configure the processor to receive, via a first communication channel, a primary authentication request transmitted from a user from a first device, process the primary authentication request to determine whether the user is authorized to access one or more resources, in response to a determination that the user is authorized to access one or more resources, initiate, a secondary authentication request, and transmit the secondary authentication request from the network element to the user via a second communication channel, different from the first communication channel.

If the file may be transferred to the communication network from the memory in the access system, then the access system notifies the end-user system that the file will be transferred from the memory in the access system to the communication network and transfers the file from the access system to the communication network.

A wireless control system uses wireless communications that include a plurality of channels and that are shared between a plurality of wireless communication devices. The wireless control system generates and transmits a first control message that allows first access to one of the channels for one of the wireless communication devices. The wireless control system waits a period of time based on a rate of control message transmissions. In response to an expiration of the period of time, the wireless control system generates and transmits a second control message that allows second access to the one of the channels for another one of the wireless communication devices.

A communication system comprised of an upstream receiver system and a downstream transmission system in communication with a user. Each of the wireless control systems is configured to retrieve a general configuration file and a custom parameter file. The custom parameter file is customized for a geographic region. Each of the wireless control systems is configured to process the general configuration file and a custom parameter file to configure itself with a custom configuration. Each of the wireless control systems is then configured to control broadband wireless communications based on the custom configuration.

A reverse caching system monitors residential end-user communications to cache content files when they are transferred from the residential end-users over access links to a core communication network. The reverse caching system monitors the residential end-user communications to identify requests for the content files cached in the reverse caching system. In response to identifying the requests, the reverse caching system transfers the requested content files from the reverse caching system to the core communication network.

The wireless control system processes the termination message to determine an amount of time for a second access to the one of the channels for the one of the wireless communication devices. The wireless control system then generates and transmits a second control message that allows the second access and indicates the amount of time. In other embodiments, the termination message indicates a number of packets or bytes remaining to be transmitted.
