In high performance computing, the potential compute power in a data center will scale to and beyond a billion-billion calculations per second ('Exascale' computing levels). Limitations caused by hierarchical memory architectures where data is temporarily stored in slower or less available memories will increasingly limit high performance computing systems from approaching their maximum potential processing capabilities. Furthermore, time spent and power consumed copying data into and out of a slower tier memory will increase costs associated with high performance computing at an accelerating rate. New technologies, such as the novel Zero Copy Architecture disclosed herein, where each compute node writes locally for performance, yet can quickly access data globally with low latency will be required. The result is the ability to perform burst buffer operations and in situ analytics, visualization and computational steering without the need for a data copy or movement.

Method and system for shared direct access storage

A distributed, shared memory computer architecture that is organized into a set of functionally independent processing nodes operating in a global, shared address space. Each node has one or more local processors, local memory and includes a common communication interface for communicating with other modules within the system via a message protocol. The common communication interface provides a single high-speed communications center within each node to operatively couple the node to one or more external processing nodes, an external routing module, an input/output (I/O) module. The common communication interface that facilitates the ability to incrementally add and swap the nodes of the system without disrupting the overall computing resources of the system.

A printed circuit card carrier permits exchange of a card during continuous operation of electronic equipment, and thus without the need to remove an upper part of the enclosure to gain access to the card for upward removal from a motherboard connector. The carrier includes a movable printed circuit card holder that slides along the carrier, perpendicularly towards and away from the motherboard. An actuator accessible from outside the equipment and the holder are coupled together such that motion of the actuator is directed into perpendicular sliding motion of the holder. This either removes the printed circuit card from the motherboard connector or installs it into connector, depending on the direction of motion of the actuator. The carrier is particularly adapted for cards meeting the PCI standard.

Method and assembly for installation or removal of printed circuit card

A rack including a rail for supporting a computer module and a grounding element electrically coupled to the rack and positioned to electrically contact a computer module inserted in the rack such that the grounding element provides a path to ground. The grounding element can be an arcuate bracket attached to the rail to make contact with a side of the computer module. The grounding element can be a conductor extending from the rack and positioned to make contact with a side of the computer module. The rack can include a wider section which provides a cabling channel and a member on the rack for mechanically coupling the rack to an adjacent rack. The rack can include at least one passage for allowing a cable to pass through the rack to an adjacent rack and a cable organizer for maintaining placement of at least one cable routed through the passage.

Computer module mounting system and method

The present invention is drawn to a system for attaching and supporting a cable to an IO panel of an electronic component such as the IO back panel of a computer. The system is comprised of a cable dock coupled to an IO panel, with a gasket disposed within the cable dock to form a conducting path from the IO panel to the cable backshell. In particular, a cable dock is fixed to the IO panel where an IO connector is exposed. Once the cable backshell is plugged into the cable dock, the cable dock provides mechanical support for a cable assembly comprising the cable-end connector, the cable backshell and the cable. The cable assembly is secured by the cable dock rather than by the coupling made between the cable-end connector and the IO connector. The cable dock also orients the cable-end connector in coupling to the IO connector such that the cable backshell is prevented from being incorrectly plugged into the cable dock. Finally, the gasket disposed within the cable dock shortens the typical electrical conducting path between the IO back panel and the cable assembly. Unlike the prior art connector systems, current flows better between the IO panel and the cable assembly to form an EMI shield. Also, unlike the prior art EMI shielding, this EMI shield is well suited for shielding high frequency EMI.

A computer which includes a computer chassis and a door is disclosed. The chassis includes a slot and the door includes a corresponding slot which are aligned when the door is in the closed position so as to create an opening which extends through the chassis and through the door. A tab assembly is inserted into the opening. The tab assembly includes two tabs which are coupled together such that the tabs may move laterally with respect to each other. The tabs may be moved into an extended position such that they latch the door to the chassis. A padlock may then be inserted into an opening within the tab assembly so as to lock the tab assembly in the extended position and thereby lock the door to the chassis.
