A hybrid one time pad encryption and decryption apparatus with methods for encrypting and decrypting data wherein a one time random number pad provides high security encryption. The random number sequence is encrypted using DES, RSA or other technique and embedded in the message as a function of the random pad itself. This generates an encryption message that is impervious to attempts to directly decode the message text as the message is randomly dispersed throughout a message and the message contains as much quasi-random data as text. The message is also relatively impervious to attempts to decode the cipher, as the cipher is randomly interrupted by the encrypted data.

A method for simultaneously generating one time pads and an apparatus which implements the method to produce a secure encryption system. The method and apparatus use the Diffie-Hellman key exchange algorithm to produce a one time pad rather than exchange keys. This makes it practical to generate one time pads for use in secure transmissions.

Method and apparatus for generating one time pads simultaneously in separate encryption/decryption systems

A distributed firewall is utilized in conjunction with a memory-mapped serial communications interface such as that defined by the IEEE 1394 specification to permit secure data transmission between selected nodes over the interface. The distributed firewall incorporates security managers in the selected nodes that are respectively configured to control access to their associated nodes, thereby restricting access to such nodes to only authorized entities. Furthermore, encrypted transmissions may be supported to restrict unauthorized viewing of data transmitted between the selected nodes over the interface. Implementation of the distributed firewall does not modify any critical specifications for the memory-mapped communications interface that would prevent the selected nodes from residing on the same interface as other nodes that adhere to such specifications but that do not support secure data transmission.

Secure data communication over a memory-mapped serial communications interface utilizing a distributed firewall

A distributed firewall is utilized in conjunction with a memory-mapped serial communications interface such as that defined by the IEEE 1394 specification to permit secure data transmission between selected nodes over the interface. The distributed firewall incorporates security managers in the selected nodes that are respectively configured to control access to their associated nodes, thereby restricting access to such nodes to only authorized entities. The security manager in at least one of the nodes is implemented in the physical (PHY) layer for the communications interface. The security manager controls access to its associated node by selectively modifying data packets received from unauthorized entities in such a manner that acceptance of the modified data packets by the link layer is inhibited, e.g., by modifying the checksum in a data packet so that, upon receipt by the link layer of the associated node, the data packet is determined to be invalid by the link layer. As a result, the link layer may disregard the data packet so that effectively the unauthorized attempt to access the node is ignored.

Physical layer security manager for memory-mapped serial communications

The present invention relates to a system and method for securing sensitive data on mass storage devices. The system and method use an encryption device to encrypt sensitive data that is to be stored on the mass storage devices. A plurality of cryptographic keys are provided to ensure that only authorized personnel have the ability to access the encrypted data.
