An enclosure for use in a vehicle having an ignition system, for securely holding an electronic device and rendering it inaccessible during operation of the vehicle. The enclosure has a main part and a door. The door has an open position and a closed position and includes a device cradle for holding the electronic device. A device responsive switch is closed when the electronic device is located within the device cradle, and a door responsive switch is closed when the door is in the closed position. When the ignition is on, the door responsive switch and device responsive switch must both be closed for the vehicle to operate. A locking assembly holds the door in the closed position and is activated while the vehicle is in operation to physically prevent access to the electronic device while the vehicle is in operation.

Vehicle mounted electronic device enclosure

An engine or like apparatus includes a linear-to-rotational motion converting mechanism which emulates an elliptic trammel or ellipsogragh linkage. The apparatus includes at least one cylinder disposed along a first axis and a piston reciprocable in the at least one cylinder along the first axis. Also included is an orbital crankshaft having a piston crank and an orbital shaft, the piston crank having a first end journaled to the piston and a second end, the second end being secured to the orbital shaft, the orbital shaft extending along a second axis perpendicular to the first axis. An output crank has a first end and a second end, the first end of the output crank being journaled to the orbital shaft. An output shaft is secured to the second end of the output crank, the output shaft being rotatable at an angular velocity about a third axis parallel with the second axis and perpendicular to and intersecting the first axis. A timing unit is coupled to the orbital shaft, the timing unit constraining the orbital shaft to rotate about the second axis at an angular velocity equal and opposite to that of the angular velocity of the output shaft. The timing unit includes an epicyclic gear train having one or, preferably, two stages.

Robot-friendly connectors, which, in one aspect are truss joints with two parts, a receptacle and a joint, the joint having a head which is loosely inserted into the receptacle and is then tightened and aligned; in one aspect, the head is a rounded hammerhead which initially is enclosed in the receptacle with a sloppy fit provided by the shape, size and configuration of surfaces on the head and on the receptacle.

Robot-friendly connector

A quick-connect fastener of a relatively-simple straightforward design is arranged with a tubular body adapted to be engaged against an attachment fitting in coincidental alignment with an opening in that fitting. A tubular collet having flexible fingers projecting from its forward end is arranged in the fastener body to be shifted forwardly by an elongated expander member coaxially arranged within the tubular collet for advancing the collet fingers into the opening in the attachment fitting. Biasing means are arranged between the elongated expander member and a rotatable actuator which is threadedly mounted within the tubular collet so as to be rotated for urging the expander member into engagement with the collet fingers. A first coupling member is arranged on the rotatable actuator to be accessible from outside of the fastener so that a second coupling member on the distal end of a flexible shaft can be introduced into the fastener body and coupled to the first coupling member to enable a typical actuating tool coupled to the shaft outside of the fastener body to be operated for advancing the outwardly-enlarged ends of the collet fingers into the opening in the attachment fitting and thereafter rotating the actuator member to expand the fingers within the opening for releasably latching the fastener to that attachment fitting. Upon expansion of the collet fingers, the biasing means impose a biasing force on the expander to releasably retain the fingers in their latching positions.
