The present invention provides for an improved stent design and stent delivery catheter assembly for repairing a main vessel and a side branch vessel forming a bifurcation. The present invention includes a trap door stent design, a stent delivery catheter assembly, an apparatus for crimping the stent and the method for crimping the stent onto the catheter assembly, and the method for delivering and implanting the stent in a bifurcated vessel. More particularly, the invention relates to a stent having rings aligned along a common longitudinal axis and connected by links, where the stent has a proximal section, a distal section and a central section. The number of rings and the expanded diameter of the sections is varied to create a &ldquo;trap door&rdquo; capable of expanding to a slightly larger diameter than the proximal section and distal section of the stent. The stent is implanted at a bifurcation so that the proximal section and distal section are in the main vessel, and the central section covers at least a portion of the opening to the side branch vessel. A second stent can be implanted in the side branch vessel and abut the expanded central section to provide full coverage of the bifurcated area in the main vessel and the side branch vessel.

Stent and catheter assembly and method for treating bifurcations

An assembly for delivering a self-expanding stent to an intraluminal location comprising a sheath having a generally non-compliant first portion and a compliant second portion, with the stent positioned within the generally non-compliant first portion for stent delivery. Upon stent deployment, the stent passes from the generally non-compliant first portion into the compliant second portion, and then out of the sheath. The compliant second portion permits the stent to at least partially expand before it passes out of the sheath, so that the force with which the stent expands once outside the sheath is tempered.

Apparatus and method for delivering a self-expanding stent

A catheter assembly for delivering an endoprosthesis within a body lumen. A delivery catheter assembly is provided which includes a stent with biocompatible material thereon for preventing the stent from expanding or otherwise dislodging from the catheter. The stent with biocompatible material is secured to an expandable member of a delivery catheter, whereby inflation of the expandable member causes the biocompatible material to fail, thereby permitting the stent to expand and deploy in a body lumen.

Sheath for self-expanding stent

A sheath is provided for covering a device on the distal end of a catheter system during the delivery of the device to an intravascular site within a patient. The sheath can be added to any delivery system prior to use and is intended to protect a deliverable device, such as an intravascular stent, from being dislodged prematurely from the catheter system or moved with respect thereto.

Protective sheath for catheters

A catheter balloon arrangement for application in tortuous blood vessels. First and second spiraled balloons are coupled to a catheter body portion. The spiraled balloons can have first and second apexes with a pitch length there between configured to encourage tortuous compatibility between the catheter balloon arrangement and a body lumen. A method of treatment with an embodiment of a catheter balloon arrangement is also provided.

An apparatus and method is provided for stenting bifurcated vessels. A proximal angled stent is configured for implanting in a side-branch vessel wherein the proximal angled stent has an angulated portion that corresponds to the angle formed by the intersection of the side-branch vessel and the main vessel so that all portions of the side-branch vessel at the bifurcation are covered by the proximal angled stent. A main-vessel stent is provided for implanting in the main vessel, wherein the main-vessel stent has an aperture or stent cell that aligns with the opening to the side-branch vessel to permit unobstructed blood flow between the main vessel and the side-branch vessel. Side-branch and main-vessel catheter assemblies are advanced over a pair of guide wires for delivering, appropriately orienting, and implanting the proximal angled stent and the apertured stent. In one embodiment, a stent delivery assembly is provided for implanting a Y-shaped stent in a bifurcated vessel. A dual balloon Y-shaped catheter is provided having two expandable members. The catheter is delivered over a guide wire while a restraining member holds the expandable members together for low profile delivery.
