A herbicide resistant transformed sugar beet that is detectable by the specific primers developed to match the DNA sequences that flank the left and/or right border region of the inserted transgenic DNA and the method of identifying primer pairs containing plant genomic DNA/plasmid DNA. More specifically, the present invention covers a specific glyphosate resistant sugar beet plant having an insertion of the transgenic material identified as the T227-1 event. The present invention additionally covers primer pairs: plant genomic DNA/Plasmid DNA that are herein identified. Additionally, these primer pairs for either the left or the right flanking regions make an event specific test for the T227-1 insert of transgenic material.

Our invention comprises a gene restorer line of,which contains a,restorer gene but is essentially free of,genes which produce high glucosinolate. In particular, we provide a gene restorer line, and progeny derived therefrom, seed of which is low in glucosinolates. The,restorer lines are free of glucosinolate-producing genes having a characteristic RFLP signature. The method of producing such lines which comprises crossing,restorer lines and hybrids with desired,germplasm and selecting progeny having a characteristic RFLP signature is also encompassed by the present invention.

Our invention comprises a gene restorer line of Brassica napus which contains a Raphanus sativus restorer gene but is essentially free of Raphanus sativus genes which produce high glucosinolate. In particular, we provide a gene restorer line, and progeny derived therefrom, seed of which is low in glucosinolates. The Brassica napus restorer lines are free of glucosinolate-producing genes having a characteristic RFLP signature. The method of producing such lines which comprises crossing Brassica napus restorer lines and hybrids with desired Brassica napus germplasm and selecting progeny having a characteristic RFLP signature is also encompassed by the present invention.
