A printer includes a color measurement system. The printer can, in response to a trigger event, automatically calibrate the color measurement system using a first print medium of a first media type.

In one embodiment, mapping color data from CMY to CMYK is performed in a manner which allows selection between creating better harmony between process-neutral and K-only neutral images when printed side-by-side, or creating better-looking images individually. In the course the mapping, adjustment is made over a degree to which BG (black generation) color coefficient generation is similar for process-neutral and K-only neutral images to produce BG coefficients. Similarly, adjustment is made over a degree to which UCR (under color removal) color coefficient generation is similar for process-neutral and K-only neutral images to produce UCR coefficients. Color data is them mapped, using the produced BG coefficients and the produced UCR coefficients.

Various systems, methods, and programs embodied in a computer readable medium for determining color separation are provided. In one representative embodiment, a method is provided that comprises specifying a number of nodes along a number of ramps in a predefined color conversion space in a computer system. A maximum possible toner deposit is associated with each of these nodes. In addition, a maximum toner limit is specified for each one of the nodes along the ramps in the computer system. Each of the maximum toner limits is less than the maximum possible toner deposit. In addition, a color separation is determined for each of the nodes along the ramps in the computer system. Each of the color separations specifies up to a maximum amount of toner equaling a corresponding one of the maximum toner limits.

A method of defining a device color profile is described. The method may include (a) storing a first set of color descriptions, wherein each color description describes a color of a different printed test patch in a first target and includes: (i) a set of color component values defined in an overlapping color space, and (ii) at least one color component cross term; (b) obtaining a second set of color descriptions, wherein each color description in the second set describes a color of a different printed test patch in a second target and includes: (i) a set of color component values defined in the overlapping color space, and (ii) at least one color component cross term; and (c) using the stored first set of color descriptions and the second set of color descriptions to define a device color profile.

A variable focal length lens includes a plurality of layers of an electro-optic material and alternating stacked substantially transparent conductor layers and substantially transparent resistor layers. Each layer of electro-optic material is sandwiched between a separate conductor layer and a separate resistor layer. The focal length of the lens is varied by varying the voltage applied to the resistor layers.

Embodiments of the present invention include devices, media, systems, and methods of image adjustment. One exemplary embodiment includes a printing device having a program and a print engine. The program can apply a filter profile associated with an image filtering material. The program can adjust an image based upon the filter profile. The print engine can be in communication with the program to print an image, adjusted based on the filter profile, on a print media.

A set of color toners for use in an electrophotographic image forming device is disclosed. The set of color toners include a cyan toner having high cyan pigment load, a magenta toner having a high magenta pigment load, and a yellow toner having a high yellow pigment load. An electrophotographic image forming device includes the set of color high pigment load toners, a black toner, a controls system architecture for an electrophotographic process controller or image output terminal having a first setting to deliver a partial amount of color toners to a target media and having a second setting to deliver complete amount of color toners to said target media. A method of creating photographic and text images in an electrophotographic image forming device includes providing a set of color toners.

One method embodiment of processing color data includes rendering the color data into two color spaces in sequence before transfer to an output stream. Input data is rendered into a color image within an intent and format independent working color space. The color image is then rendered into a media dependent color space.

Method for determining gray levels in a printer

A graphics language interpreter includes one or more color converters that accept input color values and that algorithmically convert such input color values to output color values. The color converters are specified by a standard that defines the predefined graphics language. The color converters use color conversion algorithms that are potentially specified by graphics commands during rendering. A lookup component is associated with the color converters. The lookup component indicates output color values corresponding respectively to selected input color values. The lookup component is initialized with output color values that are converted from the selected input color values by the converters. During rendering, the graphics language interpreter uses the lookup component rather than the one or more color converters to convert input color values to output color values.

Disclosed is a fuser roller having a textured outer surface. The textured outer surface can be used to produce a textured appearance on toner as it is fused to print media. Another embodiment of the invention is directed to a method that includes texturing the toner as it is fused to the print media. Texturing the toner helps mask gloss differential.

A matte laser printer produces a photographic like image on media by repeatedly fusing the toners deposited thereon. In a preferred embodiment, repeated fusing is accomplished by utilizing a duplexing path in the printer. In an alternate embodiment, a processing flow direction of the media is selectively reversed after fusing to enable multiple fusing operations. In either case, toner forming the image on the media is more fully fused, thereby reducing light scatter, such that a photographic like image is produced.

The method of the invention converts colors resident in a first device color space to gray levels for reproduction in a color or monochrome rendering device. The method initially converts the color values resident in the first device color space to corresponding color values in a device independent color space. Next, the resulting color values in the device independent color space are converted to further color values in the same color space that correspond to color values resident in the color space of a target color rendering device. The further color values from the device independent color space are then converted to corresponding gray levels so that they may be rendered by either the target color rendering device or a different color or monochrome rendering device. The use of an intermediate gamut conversion within the device independent color space enables more precise gray representations to be achieved for certain color representations.
