A communication network comprises a public safety answering point, a responder device, and a customer information system. The public safety answering point receives a call from a caller and signaling for the call. The signaling indicates a key associated with the call. The public safety answering point transfers dispatch information that identifies the key to the responder device. The responder device receives the dispatch information and generates and transmits a context request that indicates the key. The responder device receives a context response that includes a context information. The customer information system receives the context request, processes the context request to select the context information from a plurality of context information based on the key, and transfers the context response.

Emergency call handling to provide context information to responder devices

What is disclosed is a method of operating a call processing system to route a voice-over-packet call between a wireless communication device and a destination device, where the destination device is located in a geographic area served by a communication network. The method includes receiving a request for the call originating from the wireless communication device, where the request comprises a destination identifier of the destination device and a location identifier of the wireless communication device. The method also includes processing the destination identifier and the location identifier to determine if the wireless communication device is located in the geographic area served by the communication network. The method also includes selecting a first route for the call from a packet network serving the wireless communication device to the communication network serving the destination device if the wireless communication device is located in the geographic area served by the communication network, and selecting a second route for the call from the packet network serving the wireless communication device to the communication network serving the destination device if the wireless communication device is not located in the geographic area served by the communication network. The method also includes transferring routing instructions for the call.

Intelligent routing of voice-over-packet calls

A wireless device identifier and an access point identifier are associated with location information that identifies a location associated with a network access point that is associated with the access point identifier. Call signaling information requesting a call to an emergency service is received from a wireless device connected wirelessly to the network access point via a wireless network connection. The access point identifier is received from the wireless device. Based on the access point identifier, and the wireless device identifier, the location information is retrieved. The location information is transferred to an emergency service system. The call for the emergency service is established to the emergency service system.

Wireless device location for emergency calls

A method, medium, and content switch device are provided for enhanced directory assistance. A GPS-enabled wireless phone generates directory assistance requests that are monitored and processed by the content switch and a directory assistance platform to generate results that satisfy the directory assistance requests. The content switch intelligently monitors the directory assistance sessions and dynamically invokes value-adding services that delivers rich content in addition to the results to the GPS-enable wireless phone or other registered client devices based on the directory assistance requests or results. The value-adding services may include pushing driving directions to the GPS-enable wireless phone, providing training video content corresponding to vendors associated with the directory assistance requests, or connecting the GPS-enabled wireless phone to a live video-conferencing session.

Content switch for enhancing directory assistance

Methods and media are provided for offering telecommunications features to wireless devices through the use of a wireless exchange unit. The wireless exchange unit serves as an access point onto a larger wireless telecommunications network through use of a high-speed internet connection. The wireless exchange unit includes an access point base transceiver station (BTS) and an integrated application server. The integrated application server includes a session proxy, a home application server, and a voice application server. The wireless devices can access features such as, among other things, reduced-digit dialing, call rollover, and alternate message notification. For connections between devices local to the wireless exchange unit, the larger telecommunications network resources need not be utilized, therefore reducing congestion and improving performance. If used in conjunction with a network application server on the larger telecommunications network, the enhanced features can be offered to associated wireless devices when the devices are not local to the wireless exchange unit through access at another point of the telecommunications network.

Enhancing wireless telecommunications services on-site

A method for switching interactive modes in a menu system is disclosed. An audio interactive voice response session is established to provide audio menus to a communication device. A data session with said communication device is also established. The data session is used to instruct the communication device to display indicia that a second mode may be activated. The indicia may be an icon indicative of the second mode. A user selection of the indicia on the communication device sends a message to the IVR system indicating that the second mode is to be activated. The second mode may be a text mode wherein text menus are presented to the user instead of audio menus. The second mode may be a suspend mode whereby the IVR session is halted at its present menu choices and saved for later reactivation.

Switching modes in an interactive voice response system

A communication network comprises a calling device, a call processing system, and a customer information system. The calling device transmits a call request for an emergency call to the call processing system. The call request includes a caller identification that identifies a caller. The call processing system receives the call request, generates and transfers first signaling for the call that includes the caller identification and a key, and generates and transfers second signaling for the call that includes the key. The customer information system has a plurality of context information stored in association with a plurality of caller identifications. The customer information system receives the first signaling for the call, processes the caller identification to determine a context information from the plurality of context information associated with the caller identification, and stores the key in association with the context information.

Providing context information for emergency calls

There is disclosed herein a method, system and computer software product for associating a location with a wireless modem, wherein the modem has a modem identifier and a registered address associated therewith and wherein the method comprises: receiving a communication transmitted by the modem wherein the communication includes the modem identifier; determining whether the base station first receiving the communication is located within a predetermined proximity of the registered address; associating with the communication a receiving base station identifier of the base station that first received the communication; associating with the registered address a registered address base station identifier associated therewith; and comparing the registered address base station identifier with the receiving base station identifier.

Method and system for associating a location with a wireless modem

A call system comprising an interface system configured to receive a call request, and a processing system coupled to the interface system and configured operate in a current mode of a plurality of modes, to determine if the call is for an emergency service while in the current mode, if the call is for the emergency service determine a preferred mode for the call from a one of the plurality of modes, and initiate the call in the preferred mode.

Dynamic access mode determination for emergency service calls

An emergency service system receives a call transmitted from a calling device to an emergency service to obtain assistance for a person, receives from a responder device a personal information request for personal information associated with the person, wherein the personal information request includes a personal identification read by the responder device that identifies the person, determines if the responder device is authorized to request the personal information, and transfers the personal information to the responder device if the responder device is authorized.

Information provisioning for emergency calls

A communication network for emergency service call handling, the communication network comprising a mobile switching center (MSC) configured to receive an emergency call from a wireless end device and transmit first call signaling indicating a call key for the emergency call and a public safety answering point (PSAP) for the call, and a gateway system configured to receive the first call signaling, process the first call signaling to generate second call signaling indicating the call key and the PSAP, transmit the second call signaling to a routing system, and connect the emergency call from the MSC to the routing system.

Converged emergency service call handling

A communication system comprising an access system configured to provide a plurality of end devices with access to a packet communication network, a first end device of the plurality of end devices configured to transmit a first query to the access system, receive a first response indicating a first identifier for the access system, transmit a registration message indicating the first identifier and a second identifier for the first end device, and transmit a first call request for a call wherein the first call request indicates the second identifier, and a call processing system in communication with the first end device and configured to receive the registration message, store the first identifier in association with the second identifier, receive the first call request, process the second identifier to determine the first identifier stored in association with the second identifier, and transmit a second call request indicating the first identifier.

Location determination capabilities for emergency call services

An emergency information system comprises an interface and a processing system. The interface is configured to receive first call signaling for an emergency call from a call processing system wherein the first call signaling indicates a call back number. The processing system is configured to process the first call signaling to determine a destination for the emergency call, generate second call signaling indicating a key and the destination, and generate a database message indicating the key and the call back number. The interface is further configured to transfer the second call signaling to the call processing system and transfer the database message to a database system.
