A process for removing undesirable elements, e.g. nitrogen, sulfur, oxygen, from the light organic liquid product derived from a solvent refined coal liquefaction process, while preserving octane number, which comprises the steps of (1) subjecting the light liquids to an ion-exchange resin treatment and (2) contacting the resulting ion-exchanged liquids with a zeolite acting as an adsorbent under specified conditions of space velocity, temperature and pressure.

Processing of coal liquefaction products

A process is disclosed for enhancing the conversion of carbon monoxide within the regenerator of a methanol conversion unit used to regenerate spent catalysts from the conversion of methanol by the addition of controlled amounts of either copper chromite, cobalt chromite, or mixtures thereof. Conversion of carbon monoxide in the regenerator is accomplished while maintaining the efficiency of the methanol conversion unit at high levels.

Control of CO emissions in a process for producing gasoline from methanol

The specific disclosure is directed to a catalytic cracking model wherein the reactant and product species are lumped according to molecular type and boiling range. The specific invariant lumping scheme includes paraffins, naphthenes, aromatic rings, and aromatic substituent groups.

Enhanced compatibility of coal liquids with petroleum based fuels is achieved by removing or modifying the 950.degree. F. plus asphaltene-containing fraction of the coal liquid. The separation or modification can be achieved by distillation, deasphalting, hydroprocessing, and the like.

Compatible mixtures of coal liquids and petroleum based fuels

Oxidation catalysts containing platinum or other noble metal components used in automobile exhaust emission control are reactivated, after thermal deactivation, by subjecting the catalyst to a halogen-containing gas at a temperature of from 500.degree.F. to about 1000.degree.F. The passing of carbonyl halide or a mixture of carbon monoxide and halogen, alone or in a carrier gas, over the catalyst reduces the CO-oxidation and hydrocarbon-oxidation temperature to almost that of fresh catalyst. Carbonyl chloride or the carbon monoxide-chlorine mixture is preferred. This treatment may also be used in the reactivation of noble metal-containing reforming catalysts.
