Means for enhancing heat transfer from liquid cooled rotating anode x-ray tubes that provide for extended surfaces on the liquid cooled concave curved heat exchange surfaces opposing the electron beam focal track. The extended surfaces take the form of fins lying in the direction of coolant flow, said fins preferably being generally triangular in cross section.

The present invention provides an internally liquid cooled rotating target of high average power capabilities that is illuminated by an energy beam wherein multiple independent centrifugal forces are established on an associated heat transfer surface to enhance heat transfer.

Liquid cooled rotating anodes

A method for providing an approximately uniform temperature distribution on a cold plate that has at least one of a non-uniform temperature distribution on its heated surface and non-uniform wall thickness separating the heated surface from the generally opposing fluid cooled surface. Low thermal conductivity material is selectively deposited on the fluid cooled surface of the cold plate such that the resulting local thermal resistivity combined with the corresponding local heat flux results in an approximately constant temperature over the heated surface on the cold plate.
