An amino-functional polysiloxane is prepared by reacting an aminosilane (A) which contains an aminoalkyl group and at least one alkoxy group bonded to Si with a carboxylic acid and a silanol-functional polysiloxane (B). The aminosilane (A) is partially converted into its carboxylate salt which acts as a catalyst for the siloxane condensation polymerization reaction between (A) and (B).

Polysiloxanes and their preparation

A silane or siloxane containing at least one organic group is prepared by a hydrosilylation reaction between a silane or siloxane (A) containing at least one Si&#x2014;H group and an allyl compound (B) in the presence of a noble metal catalyst. The silane or siloxane (A) and the allyl compound (B) are fed continuously through a reaction zone which is maintained at a temperature in the range 115&#x2013;200&#xb0; C. and which is provided with heat exchanger means to dissipate the heat from the exothermic hydrosilylation reaction. The residence time of (A) and (B) in the reaction zone is less than 20 minutes.

Hydrosilylation process

Process for the production of condensation products or organosilicon compounds having at least one silicon-bonded hydroxyl group. The process comprises contacting the organosilicon compound with a quaternary ammonium borate, -phosphate, -carbonate or -silicate. May be employed for example for the polymerisation of .alpha., w silanol-terminated polydiorganosiloxanes and for the production of organosiloxanes having organofunctional e.g. aminoalkyl groups.

Process for the production of organosiloxanes comprising contacting (A) at least one organosilicon compound having in the molecule at least one silanol group, the organic substituents being selected from monovalent hydrocarbon groups having from 1 to 14 carbon atoms and monovalent substituted hydrocarbon groups having from 1 to 10 carbon atoms, with (B) one or more compounds selected from rubidium carbonate, cesium carbonate and carboxylates of rubidium and cesium.

A method of making a dispersion of a high viscosity siloxane in a volatile, especially cyclic siloxane, comprises first dispersing organopolysiloxanes having at least 2 Si--OR groups, wherein R is H or alkyl in a volatile siloxane and adding a catalyst which is either a phosphonitrile halide having the general formula [X(PX.sub.2 .dbd.N).sub.n PX.sub.3 ].sup.+ [MX.sub.(v-t+1) R.sub.t ].sup.-, or a heterogeneous catalyst selected from Li, Mg, Ca, Sr or Ba hydroxide, Na or K borate or phosphate, Rb or Cs carbonate or carboxylates of Rb or Cs wherein M is an element having an electronegativity of from 1.0 to 2.0, R is alkyl, X is halide, n is 1 to 6, v is the valence of M and t is from 0 to (v-1).

Method of making siloxane compositions

A process for the preparation of an organosilicon condensation product which comprises reacting together at a temperature of at least 50.degree. C. (A) an organosilicon compound having in the molecule at least one silicon-bonded hydroxyl group; and (B) an organosilicon compound having in the molecule at least one silicon-bonded --OX group, in which X respresents an alkyl group having from 1 to 8 carbon atoms or an alkoxyalkyl group having from 2 to 8 carbon atoms, in the presence of a catalytic substance which is selected from strontium hydroxide and barium hydroxide.

Process for producing organosilicon products

A process for the production of an organosilicon condensation product which comprises contacting (A) at least one organosilicon compound having in the molecule at least one silicon-bonded hydroxyl group, the organic substituents being selected from monovalent hydrocarbon groups having from 1 to 14 carbon atoms and monovalent substituted hydrocarbon groups having from 1 to 10 carbon atoms in which the substituents are selected from amino, halogen, mercapto, hydroxyl, amido and ester, with (B) a hydroxide selected from the group consisting of magnesium, calcium, strontium and barium hydroxides.

Process for the production of organosilicon condensation products which comprises contacting (A) at least one organosilicon compound having in the molecule at least one silanol group, the organic substituents being selected from monovalent hydrocarbon groups having from 1 to 14 carbon atoms and monovalent substituted hydrocarbon groups having from 1 to 10 carbon atoms, and (B) a borate or phosphate of sodium or potassium. The condensation products find application in, for example textile treatments and paper coating.

Novel organosiloxanes containing units of the formula ##STR1## in which Q represents a divalent group composed of carbon and hydrogen, and optionally oxygen or sulphur, and R represents a monovalent hydrocarbon group, the organosiloxanes also containing at least two silicon-bonded substituents selected from hydrogen atoms, alkoxy groups and alkoxyalkoxy groups. The organosiloxanes can be applied to textile fibres, optionally in conjunction with crosslinking agents and catalysts, to impart thereto resistance to soiling by oily substances.

Organosiloxane-oxyalkylene copolymers in which at least one silicon atom of an organosiloxane unit has attached thereto a group ##STR1## in which X is a divalent hydrocarbon group, R is an alkylene group, n is an integer of at least 2, Z is an organic substituent containing an epoxy group, R' is lower alkyl, vinyl or phenyl, R' is alkyl or alkoxyalkyl and a is 0 or 1, at least 40 percent of the total substituents in the copolymer being methyl. The copolymers are film forming and may be applied to continuous or porous substrates from aqueous or non-aqueous solutions.

Process for the treatment of fibres e.g. of nylon or polyester/cotton in which the fibres are contacted with a polydiorganosiloxane having at least one --OM group, in which M represents H, alkyl or alkoxyalkyl, and at least one quaternary ammonium salt substituent --RN.sup.+ (R').sub.2 R'X.sup.- in which R represents a divalent hydrocarbon or hydrocarbonoxy group, R' represents a monovalent hydrocarbon group or an alkyleneoxy or polyalkyleneoxy group, each R' represents methyl or ethyl and X represents a halogen atom. The treatment facilitates the removal of oily stains during laundering and may be applied in conjunction with other silicones.
