The present disclosure provides for a metal chelated polyol liquid and/or a metal chelated polyether polyol liquid that can be used in an isocyanate-reactive composition and a reaction mixture for forming a polyurethane polymer. The metal chelated polyester polyol liquid is a reaction product of a chelating polyester polyol having a chelating moiety and a metal compound having a metal ion. The metal chelated polyether polyol liquid is a reaction product of a chelating polyether polyol having a chelating moiety and a metal compound having a metal ion. The chelating moiety of the chelating polyester polyol or the chelating polyether polyol chelates the metal ion to form the metal chelated polyester polyol liquid or the metal chelated polyether polyol liquid, respectively, having a mole ratio of the metal ion to the chelating moiety of 0.05:1 to 2:1.

Embodiments of the present disclosure are directed towards methods of etherification including modifying a zeolite catalyst with silica to provide a silica modified zeolite catalyst; and contacting the silica modified zeolite catalyst with an olefin and an alcohol to produce a monoalkyl ether.

Disclosed in embodiments herein are ionomers and methods of making the same. The ionomers comprise a neutralized blend of olefin-carboxylic acid copolymers and Group II, Group IIIA, and transition metal salts. The method includes mixing an acid copolymer formed from an α-olefin monomer and an α,β-ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid having at least one carboxylic acid group with an amine-containing aqueous solution to form an aqueous dispersion containing an amine salt of the acid copolymer. The method further includes mixing a solution of a Group IIA , Group IIIA, or transition metal salt with the aqueous dispersion containing the amine salt of the acid copolymer to exchange at least a portion of the amine salt for the Group IIA , Group IIIA, or transition metal salt, thereby forming the ionic copolymer.

Alkyl ether amines are used as foam control compounds in foodstuff processing. The alkyl ether amines can be used at various stages during industrial processing of vegetables, fruits, and plants, such as potatoes and beets. The alkyl ether amines are generally of lower molecular weights and therefore easily transported to the foam layer to break the foam structure. Further, the alkyl ether amines are water soluble and therefore can be readily removed from the food processing system.

Cyclic ketal compounds provide excellent foam protection when having at least one moiety of a threshold size (comprising 4 or more carbon atoms) pendant from a ketal carbon. The carbons in such moieties may be present in one or more chains. The cyclic ketal compounds of the present invention are compatible with foodstuff manufacturing. In particular, it has been discovered that the cyclic ketal compounds of the present invention exhibit excellent foam control performance in both potato and sugar beet processing systems.
