Support systems and stands for electronic devices include tilt hinges, lift arms, and their component parts. Some tilt hinges include assemblies for guiding and retaining bars or protrusions into preferred positioning within receiver openings to unify the parts, particularly as they move, and to reduce wobble or slop in the joints. Lift arms provide simplified and low-cost guidance and counterbalance mechanisms for controlling movement of the electronic device relative to the base of a stand. In some cases, the lift arms have sheaths to help protect or cover mechanisms while allowing additional space for the mechanisms within the lift arm. Other interconnection systems hide and protect a connector interface between the stand and the electronic device within a housing until unlocked and the connector is moved into an exposed position. These systems improve efficiency, comfort, ergonomics, accessibility, and user satisfaction of the electronic devices and their supports.

Reconfigurable stand ecosystem

Structures, methods, and apparatus for protecting interconnections between components and boards in an electronic device from damage resulting from a physical shock. This damage can occur due to differential tensile forces being applied between the component and the board during a drop or other shock event. An example can reduce or prevent damage by providing differential compression forces between the component and board that can cancel differential tensile forces between the component and board during the shock event. Another example can reduce or prevent damage by reducing differential tensile forces between a component and board. Another example can secure a component to the board to directly reduce the differential force in order to prevent damage.

An electronic device is provided, the electronic device having a keyboard including a biometric input device. The biometric input device may be a biometric key or button. A cap of a biometric key or button may include a textured ceramic cover, such as a textured sapphire cover. The cap may further include a rear decorative coating and a front antireflective coating disposed on or over the textured ceramic cover. The cap may have one or more visual and or tactile properties which resemble those of an adjacent key of the keyboard.

Perforated structures and methods for forming perforated structures are disclosed. The perforated structures include partial holes or blind-holes that pass partially through the substrate. The partial holes can be positioned proximate to through-holes that pass entirely through the substrate. The partial holes add mechanical strength to the perforated substrate. Described are methods for modifying the optical appearance of the partial holes such that the partial holes appear indistinguishable from the through-holes, which allows for flexibility in designing cosmetically appealing patterns within the perforated structures.

Treatment of substrate sub-surface

Examples of computing devices and assemblies for mounting computer components to an enclosure or other structure of the computing device are described. In some examples, the mounting assembly may include a compliant member having a plurality of corner portions configured to engage the corners of the component. The mounting assembly may also include a bracket configured to enclose at least a portion of the compliant member. The mounting bracket may be configured to mount the component at an angle relative to the enclosure or other structure, and may include one or more features adapted for improved cooling of the component mounted therein. The compliant member may include a plurality of ribs or other retaining elements for maintaining the component in a spaced apart position relative to the mounting bracket.

Internal computer assembly features and methods

An externally accessible component in an electronic device is described. The component may be installed within an enclosure without being properly aligned with an opening of the enclosure. A tool external to the electronic device may be inserted into the component and into a rear member located behind the component. The tool may actuate the rear member in a manner that actuates the component to move in a direction toward the opening, in order to align the component with the opening. A method of aligning the component is also described.
