A method for connecting devices to a health record configured to have a single connection thereto. The method includes creating a virtual device and configuring the virtual device such that two or more of the devices are connectable thereto. The virtual device receives data from each of the two or more of the devices and aggregates the data from each of the two or more of the devices into aggregate data. The aggregate data is associated with the virtual device as originating therefrom. The method further includes connecting the virtual device to the electronic medical record as the single connection thereto and providing the aggregate data from the virtual device to the health record.

A patient monitoring system includes an identification transmitter that transmits an identification signal associated with a patient and a location tracking system having a plurality of identification receivers arranged in a care facility that receive the identification signal from the identification transmitter, wherein the location tracking system determines a patient location within a care facility based on a location of receipt of the identification signal. The patient monitoring system further includes an activity tracking module executable to receive at least one activity threshold for the patient and the patient location, and to determine a patient activity indicator based on the patient location. The activity tracking module is further executable to generate an activity alert based on a comparison between the patient activity indicator and the activity threshold.

A patient monitoring system includes a sensing device configured to measure physiological parameter data from a patient, an identification transmitter that transmits an identification signal, wherein the identification signal is associated with the patient, and a location tracking system having a plurality of identification receivers arranged in a care facility that receive the identification signal from the identification transmitter and determine a patient location within the care facility based on a location of receipt of the identification signal. The patient monitoring system further includes a contextual alarming module that receives the patient location and selects at least one location-specific alarm rule based on the patient location in the care facility. Physiological parameter data is then assessed by the patient monitoring system based on the location-specific alarm rule.

A monitoring device operable to provide information on data obtained from sensors operably connected between a patient and the device is provided that includes a central processing unit configured to receive incoming data signals from sensors concerning physiological parameters of the patient to compare the incoming data signals to predetermined alarm limits for the physiological parameters to determine an alarm condition and an analytics engine operably connected to the central processing unit and selectively operable to provide predictions of adverse events using the incoming data signals. The central processing unit is configured to alter the alarm limits for at least one of the physiological parameters in response to the activation of the analytics engine to reduce clinically irrelevant alarms.

A method of adjusting event detection and alarm generation sensitivity settings of a patient monitoring system includes receiving physiological information from a patient, determining an acuity level of the patient in dependence upon the physiological information received, and at least one of automatically updating a sensitivity setting for a system action in dependence upon the determined acuity level of the patient or prompting a user to manually update the sensitivity setting for the system action in dependence upon the determined acuity level.

The system also includes an on-line monitoring module configured to generate a suffix tree data structure in response to the monitoring signal to identify alarm patterns from the set of alarm events and classify the alarm sequence in response to the occurrences of alarm patterns in the alarm sequence. The on-line monitoring module is further configured to alert monitoring personnel of an alarm condition after processing the alarm sequence in real-time.
