Provided herein are methods and devices for inductively heating a tissue to effect a biological response in the tissue or in a biomolecule comprising the same. The methods and devices comprise means for applying a high frequency alternating magnetic field via an inductive coil comprising an applicator to the tissue and means for monitoring feedback from the alternating magnetic field to control and/or adjust heat, for example, in the tissue, which further includes a means for cooling the tissue. Particularly, the device may be a hand held piece that incorporates or has at least an applicator, including a radiofrequency energy generator and output, an inductive coil, an impedance matching system, a cooling system, including a thermally conductive surface and a coolant housing containing a coolant that circulates through the thermally conductive surface, and a feedback monitor. Optionally, the device may comprise a tissue-shaper.

Inductive heating of tissues using alternating magnetic fields and uses thereof

The present invention improves the cosmetic appearance of skin by controllably heating a superficial layer of skin thereby inducing acute tissue contraction or shrinkage and a wound response leading to the production of biomolecules, all of which result in improved cosmesis. The invention incorporates a source of radiofrequency electrical energy coupled to coil, with requisite impedance matching network, thereby resulting in the production of an alternating magnetic field. When tissue is brought into proximity of the alternating magnetic field, inductive heating of the tissue results as a consequence of either or both of dipole formation and oscillation, and eddy current formation. Optionally, cooling is provided to remove heat from the coil, the source of radiofrequency electrical energy, or the surface of the skin alone or in combination. The invention exhibits the significant benefits of, among other things, being non-invasive, not requiring electrical contact with the body of the subject, and providing controllable heating only to a thin layer of tissue.

Methods have been developed for incorporation of peracid compounds and related compositions into a non-aqueous medium. The peracid incorporated into the non-aqueous medium is stable and keeps its chemical and antimicrobial activity for extended durations. The non-aqueous medium may be removed just prior to or during application of the peracid.

Stable peracid-containing compositions

Methods have been developed for incorporation of a peracid compound into or on wound application matrices, such as bandages or dressings, and other matrices which will favorably impact wound healing and help eliminate microbial infection. The peracid compound comprises a base compound that is metabolically pertinent to wound healing, the oxidized form of the base compound (a peracid), and an appropriate oxidizer, such as hydrogen peroxide. In addition, other excipients with wound healing potential, such as esters of the base compound, may be added to the peracid compound. The combination peracid-wound application matrices can be used to disinfect and heal various wound types with designed time release of the peracid compound.

Wound care products with peracid compositions

Provided herein are protective laminate devices comprising a biocompatible non-adherent substance and a fast-setting adhesive and methods of use. Also provided is a dispenser for an adhesive tape. The protective laminate devices and methods may be used for wound closure.

Provided herein is a device for altering a biological membrane in an individual comprising a means for delivering energy to the surface of the biological membrane, a means for monitoring a physiological state of the biological membrane during delivery of said energy, a means for modulating delivery of the energy to the biological membrane where the modulating is in response to a change in the monitored physiological state. Also provided is a device to control the permeation of substance across a biological membrane and methods for use of these devices.

Feedback control device for transcutaneous drug delivery and uses therefor

Provided herein are methods, devices and compositions to conductively or to inductively fix substrates, including tissues, using electromagnetic energy. Also provided is a method of controlling the fixing process via feedback monitoring of a property of the composition and/or of the electromagnetic energy used.

Controlled release transdermal drug delivery

Provided herein is a device for use in an anastomosis of tissue(s) comprising a biocompatible material and a means of applying radiofrequency energy or electrical energy to generate heat within said biocompatible material. The device also may be used to bond or fuse at two materials where at least one of the material is a tissue. Also provided are methods to anastomose tissue or to bond or to fuse these materials using these devices.

A system and method is provided to view an anatomical structure such as a blood vessel in high contrast with its surrounding tissue. The system and method may be used to produce an image of an anatomical structure using reflected electromagnetic radiation singularly scattered from target tissue. The system and method may also provide same-side illumination and detection of reflected electromagnetic radiation in a convenient integral imaging device. The system and method may also provide helmet mounted imaging technology in a single integral helmet which allows the wearer to view an anatomical structure located within a patient such that the image is continuously oriented according to the orientation of the helmet wearer's head. The system and method may also be used in the performance of venipuncture. The system and method may provide for improved contrast between any anatomical structure and its surrounding tissue for use in any imaging system.
