A network management architecture referred to as the Control/Orchestration/Management/Policy/Analytics, COMPA, architecture. The COMPA architecture functions to simplify and automate the operations (both management and business process) of a network. In one aspect, the COMPA architecture provides controlled access to functionality provided by different responsibility domains using cooperating service access control, SAC, agents.

Automatic network management system and methods

There is provided a software-defined networking, SDN, architecture network, comprising a first network node () and a second network node (), the first network node being configured to transmit data packets comprising: user data packets belonging to two or more user data packet flows, the user data packets of each user data packet flow comprising user data plane information; and control data packets each comprising OSI layer 7, L7, information for controlling the processing by the second node of the user data packets of a respective one of the user data packet flows. The SDN architecture network further comprises an SDN architecture forwarding element configured to forward user data packets received from the first node towards the second node using forwarding information that links a forwarding address to information in an IP 5-tuple of a data packet. The forwarding element is further configured to selectively forward a control data packet received from the first node towards the second node by: receiving and storing L7 information and the forwarding information; performing deep-packet inspection of the received control data packet to extract the L7 information therein, and selecting the received control data packet for forwarding towards the second node when the received control data packet comprises L7 information matching the stored L7 information; determining information in the IP 5-tuple of the received control data packet; and, where the received control data packet has been selected for forwarding, forwarding said control data packet towards the second node using the forwarding information and the information in the IP 5-tuple of the control data packet. The SDN architecture network also includes a controller () configured to transmit the L7 information and the forwarding information to the forwarding element ().

Control signalling in SDN architecture networks

A network management architecture referred to as the Control/Orchestration/Management/Policy/Analytics (COMPA) architecture (or COMPA for short). The COMPA architecture functions to simplify and automate the operations (both management and business process) of a network. In one aspect, the COMPA architecture addresses four use case categories: (1) Resource/Service Onboarding; (2) Automated Product Offerings; (3) Automated Management; and (4) Service Exposure. COMPA enables rapid service introduction into the network and lifecycle management; dynamic network governance via policy; and controlled access to functionality provided by different responsibility domains.

A method () is disclosed, the method being performed in a network controller of a Mobile Transport Network. The Mobile Transport Network comprises communication links interconnecting network entities of a cellular Radio Access Network (RAN) and a core network. The method comprises receiving, from a network entity in the core network, an indication of traffic load within the RAN or between the RAN and the core network (). Also disclosed is a method (), performed in a network entity of a core network, the core network being connected to a cellular RAN by a Mobile Transport Network. The Mobile Transport Network comprises communication links interconnecting network entities of the core network and the RAN. The method () comprises sending to a network controller of the Mobile Transport Network an indication of traffic load within the RAN or between the RAN and the core network (). Also disclosed are a network controller (), a core network entity () and a computer program product configured to carry out methods in a network controller a core network entity.

Information exchange between a mobile transport network and a core network

Being aware of a loss of signalling bearer transport through an IP Connectivity Access Network is an important issue. Therefore, the present invention relies on amending the Policing and Charging Control model with means to provide the IMS infrastructure with subscriptions to and notifications about signalling session events detected on the signalling IP flow transported through the bearer layer. To this end, a P-CSCF, or AF included therein, is amended to allow the establishment of a signalling session for subscription to notification of bearer level events for a signalling IP flow. Apart from that, new processing rules are required at the AF and PCRF for handling the signalling session, the notification of events and the termination of the signalling session.

A Home Subscriber Server for handling IP Multimedia Subsystem subscriptions comprises means for maintaining associations between public user identities and Service Profiles, where two or more public user identities can be associated with a common Service Profile, and means for identifying to a network node all public user identities that are associated with a common Service Profile.

A technique is described allowing an IMS enabled network to terminate a communication request directed towards a user device in a well-defined way, even for cases in which multiple registrations for IMS are present that are related to the same physical user device. A method embodiment of this technique comprises registering multiple user agents for one and the same user device, wherein from each user agent contact information including a device ID identifying the user device is provided; and processing a communication request directed towards the user device, the processing comprising identifying multiple identical device IDs of registered contacts, and treating the communication request according to a predetermined handling scheme related to the detection of identical device IDs.

The present invention applies to telecommunication networks, such as wireless mobile networks. In particular, the present invention deals with providing more efficient use of the resources of such mobile networks. The present invention provides in a wireless mobile telecommunications network, having a wireless mobile access interface, a message filter function adapted to remove, store and/or adapt header information from messages transferred to/from a wireless mobile device. The present invention is based on using the SIP signalling channel within the workings of a mobile network system more efficiently.

Methods and apparatus for registering or deregistering a user to or from an IP multimedia subsystem

A method of indicating IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) services and IMS applications to which a Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) message relates. An IMS communication service identifier and an IMS application reference are added to the SIP message. The identifier and the reference may be added as Feature Tags. The reference may also be added as an a-line augmenting an m-line in a Session Description Protocol (SDP) part of the SIP message.
