An information handling system operating a reconfigurable antenna training control system may comprise a configurable antenna system in one of a plurality of available configurations transceiving a radio frequency signal, and a radio frequency system measuring performance metrics for the signal transceived according to each available configuration over a training time period preset based on historical performance and stability of each available configuration. An antenna front end system may execute instructions of the reconfigurable antenna training control system to determine a weighted performance metric based on the measured performance metrics and on historical performance metrics for each candidate configuration, to compare the weighted performance metrics for each configuration, and to identify one of the configurations having a highest weighted performance metric as an optimal configuration. The configurable antenna may then establish a wireless link using the optimal configuration.

Control system and method for training a reconfigurable antenna

A wireless adapter front end system and method for an information handling system including a wireless adapter for communicating on a plurality antenna systems for connection to a plurality of wireless links and an antenna configurable to have a plurality of antenna radiation patterns via an antenna pattern steering control interface, wherein the antenna is operating in a first antenna radiation pattern. An antenna adaptation controller executing code instructions for steering the antenna radiation pattern based upon a plurality of antenna trigger inputs, wherein the antenna trigger inputs include WLAN signal state feedback data and information handling system physical configuration data for configuration of the antenna system relative to a display screen and base housing of the information handling system, the antenna adaptation controller receiving the antenna trigger inputs and selecting a second antenna radiation pattern for comparing a WLAN radio link signal levels of the second antenna radiation pattern to the first antenna radiation pattern, and the antenna adaptation controller setting the second antenna radiation pattern as the highest if the WLAN radio link signal level of the second antenna radiation pattern is greater than the WLAN radio link signal level of the first antenna radiation pattern.

The controller may execute code instructions to receive a trigger input indicating decreased signal strength, measure RSSI variance of the wireless link, measure a rate of mobility of the information handling system determined from accelerometer data or velocity data, identify an allotted training duration time period associated with the rate of mobility and RSSI variance, identify an optimal antenna pattern associated with a highest quality link within the allotted training duration time period, and instruct the transceiving antenna to operate according to the optimal antenna pattern.

Method and apparatus for an accelerometer assisted control system for a reconfigurable antenna communication device

A receiveras a component in a wireless communication deviceand a corresponding method are used for receiving a multi-carrier communication signal and determining a timing offset thereof. The receivercomprises a controllerto perform a correlation on each of a plurality of sub-carriers comprising the multi-carrier signal to provide a plurality of timing offsets. A quality metric corresponding to each of the plurality of timing offsets may be employed to select the best timing offset. Alternatively, a set of timing offsets whose quality metric exceed a threshold may be averaged. Either the best or average timing offset is used for processing all the sub-carriers of the multi-carrier signal.
