The invention provides an improved apparatus for use in processing wet scrap textile glass fiber into a dry flowable powder. The apparatus includes a unique inlet and outlet structure to prevent clogging during operation. The apparatus also includes a unique discharge unit for ground dry glass fines composed of a pair of rod gratings place proximate the outlet of the apparatus.

Scrap recovery apparatus

The improved joule effect glass melt apparatus and method of using the apparatus delivers isothermal glass to a glass forming bushing and reduces the erosion of refractory at high melt temperatures by isolating the refractory from joule effect currents. The glass melt apparatus uses molybdenum liners located on the side walls of the molten glass receptacle to receive joule effect current and provide a uniform temperature distribution through the glass. A molybdenum flow block and molybdenum heat sink located in the flow block complete the heat distribution in the molten glass, achieving an essentially isothermal cross section molten glass upon arrival at the glass forming apparatus or bushing.

A method and apparatus for preheating particulate glass batch comprises a rotatable drum for mixing batch with heat transfer media in a heat transfer relationship, means for directing the heated batch from the container to a glass melting furnace, means for venting gases and gas-borne particulate matter from the drum, means for separating a selected portion of the particulate matter from the vented gases, and means for directing the separated particulate matter into the glass melting furnace.

Method and apparatus for preheating glass batch

Apparatus and method for the heat processing of granular materials by the counterflow of the granular material and preheated particulate heat exchange media through a processing drum rotatable about an inclined axis. The hot media is imtimately mixed with the granular material internally of the drum to heat the material and to cool the media. Heat processing of particulate material

An apparatus for changing bushings in a glass melting furnace is disclosed. A support attached to the furnace holds the bushings beneath an opening in the forehearth. A replacement bushing is placed in the framework, translated next to the operating bushing, brought to operating thermal condition and then both bushings are translated until the replacement bushing is beneath the opening in forehearth. This eliminates the need to freeze the molten glass within the bushing.

A method of removing coatings from scrap glass is disclosed. The scrap glass is milled in the presence of particulate batch, preheated and fed to a glass melting furnace. The particulate batch aids in the milling of the scrap glass. The process removes the coatings from the scrap during preheating and provides clean material for melting.

Process for reusing scrap glass

An apparatus for adjustably supporting a vertical electrode for an arc-type furnace. The apparatus includes an upper stationary electrode clamping structure and a lower adjustable electrode clamping structure suspended from the upper structure by adjustment screws. The two clamping structures are mounted on a carriage movable linearly into and out of registry with the furnace to accommodate maintenance and repair. Each clamping structure comprises an arcuate electrical contact and wedge-type slips engaging the periphery of the electrode in opposition to the electrical contact, the slips being spring-biased into electrode engagement and cam actuated from electrode engagement. The cams are actuated by a common shaft extending between the two clamping structures, so that the electrode is released from one clamping structure when engaged by the other clamping structure.
