A double zipper lock for a luggage case comprises a base with a housing containing a combination lock, and a U-shaped loop adapted to embrace the housing. Arms of the loop are pivotally mounted on opposite ends of the housing and a bight portion of the loop cooperates with portions of the base to form chambers that, when closed, trap zipper sliders. When the combination lock is set on-combination, the user may lift the loop, to free the sliders, by engaging the bight portion with the fingers of a hand and using the thumb to press a manual actuator inwardly of the housing. The actuator is part of a bolt that is supported for pivotal and translational movement. The translational movement, which is permitted only when the lock is on-combination, causes pivotal movement of a latch member from a latching position to an unlatching position. In the latching position, the latch member prevents lifting of the loop.

Zipper locking apparatus for luggage cases

A double zipper lock for a luggage case comprises a housing containing a combination lock, and a U-shaped loop adapted to embrace the housing. Arms of the loop are pivotally mounted on opposite ends of the housing and a bight portion of the loop is adapted to trap zipper sliders. When the combination lock is set on-combination, the user may lift the loop, to free the sliders, by engaging the bight portion with the fingers of a hand and using the thumb to press a manual actuator inwardly of the housing. The actuator is part of a bolt that is supported for pivotal and translational movement. The translational movement, which is permitted only when the lock is on-combination, causes pivotal movement of a latch member from a latching position to an unlatching position. In the latching position, the latch member prevents lifting of the loop.

A combination lock has a faceplate movable from a first position to a second position only when combination dials are set to an opening combination of the lock, the dials being movable with the faceplate portion from the first position to the second position and being rotatable relative to the faceplate. A spring biases the faceplate portion toward the first position. A manually shiftable member, also movable with the faceplate from the first position to the second position, is shiftable relative to the faceplate to hold the faceplate in the second position and, at the same time, to permit the dials to select a new opening combination of the lock. The faceplate constitutes a manual actuator that controls a latch.

Dead bolt combination lock having an inexpensive lock mechanism, of a type known in the luggage industry, that cooperates with a one-piece bolt. The bolt is supported for reciprocative movement on internal shoulders of a housing and forms a detent device with a resilient arm of a back cover of the housing, so that the bolt is releasably held in its locked and unlocked positions. The bolt is locked in one of those positions when the combination lock is off-combination. The configuration of the bolt resists bending, and a projecting portion of the bolt contains a case-hardened pin that can rotate to resist sawing through the bolt.

A closure, which may be part of a glove compartment drawer of an automobile, is controlled by a latch pivotally supported on a base that also supports a combination lock. When the lock is set to its unlocking combination, the latch is permitted to move from a latched position and is moved toward its unlatched position by cooperable camming formations on the latch and the closure.

A security device for a firearm comprises a pair of covers adapted to be disposed on opposite sides of a firearm trigger guard. One of the covers has an elongate protruding housing containing the latching portion of a latch member and the other cover is formed with an opening in which is disposed a catch member adapted to engage and retain the latching portion when the covers are pressed together with the trigger guard therebetween and with the housing being projected through the trigger guard into the opening. The covers when mutually engaged embrace the trigger guard and prevent operation of the trigger. The latch member may be moved out of engagement with the catch member to release the covers by means of a manual actuator which is controlled by a combination lock contained in the cover which is provided with the latch member. The device may be applied to a range of different firearms.

Security device for firearms

Combination locks employ dial-driven rotary elements for controlling the position of a locking member between locking and unlocking positions by peripheral cooperating of the respective elements with the locking member. Each rotary element is formed in a manner whereby no audible sound or difference in feel is produced during rotation of the element when the on-combination setting of the element is reached. This reduces the possibility that the lock may be picked.

Combination locks

A combination lock of the dial and sleeve type has a scramble feature enabling a hasp to be engaged with a latch of the lock even when the dials and sleeves are not on-combination, by independent movement of the latch relative to manual actuating means of the lock. When the hasp is engaged, it supports the latch in a position in which the latch is adapted to engage a blocking element that prevents the latch from being moved out of its hasp-engaging position independently of the manual actuator. This arrangement effectively prevents the lock from being forced open when the hasp is engaged.
