A radiation sensitive composition, process for using said composition, and substrates coated with said composition. The photoimageable composition comprises a photobase generator compound, a resin binder and a material capable of crosslinking in the presence of base. In preferred aspects, the invention provides a negative-acting, aqueous developable photoimageable composition comprising a photobase generator compound, a resin binder which preferably is a phenolic polymer, a crosslinking agent that comprises one or more active groups that will undergo base-initiated crosslinking, and a curing agent.

Photoimageable resist compositions containing photobase generator

A photoimageable composition and process for use of the same. The composition comprises a binder that is a mixture of a phenolic resin and a multifunctional epoxy or vinyl compound and a curing system comprising a photoactive compound capable of generating a curing catalyst capable of crosslinking the binder components. The process for use of the composition comprises application of the composition to a substrate, drying of the same, exposing the dried coating to activating radiation, curing the binder in light exposed areas, developing the coating and thermally curing the developed image. The composition is especially useful as a solder mask.

Light-sensitive composition and process

The present invention provides photoimageable compositions, processes and articles of manufacture. In particular, the invention provides a process comprising electrophoretically applying a coating layer of a photoimageable composition onto a conductive surface, the composition comprising a material that contains one or more photoacid labile groups. The photoimageable compositions of the invention preferably comprise a photoacid generator, a material that contains one or more acid-clearable functional groups, and a carrier resin that contains one or more functional groups that are, or can be treated to be, at least partially ionized.

Light-sensitive composition for use as a soldermask and process

A method and apparatus for electrodeposition of insulating coatings such as photoresists having uniform thickness throughout the coating. The apparatus comprises one or more cathodes disposed in a bath containing an electrophoretic depositing composition, one or more anodes disposed in said bath in face to face relationship with the cathode, and means for applying a voltage between the anode and the cathode to produce a current whereby a current density gradient is formed on the cathode, the gradient comprising high and low current density areas. The anode of the present invention is configured so that the anode is concentrated opposite the high current density areas of the cathode, thereby controlling the thickness of deposition by controlling the amount of current flowing to the cathode.

A method for coating a conductive surface with an organic coating where one discrete area of the organic coating is coated onto the surface in an image pattern by conventional means and another discrete area of the organic coating is electrophoretically deposited onto the surface. The process is useful for diverse applications including the fabrication of printed circuit boards.
