A process for the vapour phase chemical dehydration of ethanol in a reactor in the presence of a supported heteropolyacid catalyst, said process comprising a step of contacting the ethanol with the heteropolyacid catalyst, wherein the heteropolyacid catalyst comprises a partially neutralised silicotungstic acid salt, wherein the partially neutralised silicotungstic acid salt has from 30% to 70% of the hydrogen atoms replaced with cations selected from the group consisting of alkali metal cations, alkaline earth metal cations, transition metal cations, ammonium cations, and mixtures thereof; but with the proviso that the alkali metal cation is not lithium; and wherein, after attaining steady-state performance of the catalyst, said process is operated continuously with the same supported heteropolyacid catalyst for at least 150 hours, without any regeneration of the catalyst.

Process for producing alkenes from oxygenates by using supported partially neutralised heteropolyacid catalysts

The present invention relates to a process for producing ethene by the vapor phase dehydration of ethanol using a supported heteropolyacid catalyst. In particular, the present invention involves the use of a supported heteropolyacid catalyst, wherein the supported heteropolyacid catalyst is: i) a mixed oxide support comprising silica and a transition metal oxide, wherein silica is present in an amount of at least 50 wt. %, based on the weight of the mixed oxide support; or ii) a mixed oxide support comprising zirconia and a different transition metal oxide, wherein zirconia is present in an amount of at least 50 wt. %, based on the weight of the mixed oxide support. When used in a process for the preparation of ethene by vapor phase dehydration, and after attaining steady-state performance of the catalyst, the process may be operated continuously with the same supported heteropolyacid catalyst for at least 150 hours without any regeneration of the catalyst.

Process for dehydration of oxygenates with heteropolyacid catalysts having mixed oxide supports and use of the same

The present invention provides a process for the preparation of ethene by vapor phase chemical dehydration of a feed comprising ethanol and optionally water and/or ethoxyethane, said process comprising contacting a dried supported heteropoly acid catalyst in a reactor with the feed-stream having feed temperature of at least 200&#xb0; C.; wherein the pressure inside the reactor is at least 0.80 MPa but less than 1.80 MPa; and before the supported heteropolyacid catalyst is contacted with the feed-stream having a feed temperature of at least 200&#xb0; C., the process is initiated by: (i) drying a supported heteropolyacid catalyst in a reactor under a stream of inert gas having a feed temperature of from above 100&#xb0; C. to 200&#xb0; C.; and (ii) contacting the dried supported heteropolyacid catalyst with an ethanol-containing vapor stream having a feed temperature of from above 100&#xb0; C. to 160&#xb0; C.

Process for preparing ethene

The present invention provides a process for the preparation of ethene by vapor phase chemical dehydration of a feed-stream comprising ethanol and optionally water and/or ethoxy ethane, said process comprising contacting a dried supported heteropolyacid catalyst in a reactor with the feed-stream having a feed temperature of at least 200&#xb0; C.; wherein before the supported heteropolyacid catalyst is contacted with the feed-stream having a feed temperature of at least 200&#xb0; C., the process is initiated by: (i) drying a supported heteropolyacid catalyst in a reactor under a stream of inert gas having a feed temperature of from above 100&#xb0; C. to 200&#xb0; C.; and (ii) contacting the dried supported heteropolyacid catalyst with an ethanol-containing vapor stream having a feed temperature of from above 100&#xb0; C. to 160&#xb0; C.

The present invention provides a process for the preparation of ethene by vapor phase chemical dehydration of a feed comprising ethanol, said process comprising contacting the feed with a supported heteropolyacid catalyst in a reactor, wherein the feed temperature is at least 250&#xb0; C. and the pressure inside the reactor is at least 0.80 MPa but less than 1.80 MPa.

Process for producing propylene

Process for producing mono-olefins(s) from a feedstock A containing ethanol and propanol, wherein ethanol and propanol are dehydrated into the corresponding same carbon number olefins. The process is performed by 1. reacting feedstock A in a vapor phase dehydration reactor wherein the ethanol and propanol alcohols are converted into a product stream B comprising ethylene, propylene, ethers, water and unconverted alcohols, 2. cooling the product stream B, 3. disengaging the cooled product stream B in a separation unit to give a first stream C containing ethylene, propylene and ethers, and a second product stream D containing water, ethers and unconverted alcohols, 4. feeding the product stream D to a dewatering column wherein the water stream F is separated from the ethers and unconverted alcohols stream E, 5. recycling the stream E into the dehydration reactor of step 1, and 6. cooling the product stream C. In a step 7, the cooled product stream C is fed to a purification unit wherein the ethers stream G is separated from the ethylene and propylene stream H, and in an optional step 8, the ethers stream G is recycled to either the dewatering column of step 4 and/or directly to dehydration reactor of step 1.

Process for producing olefins

Process for producing ethylene from an ethanol feedstock A by (1) reacting the ethanol feedstock A in a vapor phase reactor wherein the ethanol is converted at a temperature between 160 and 270&#xb0; C. and at a pressure of above 0.1 MPa but less than 4.5 MPa, into a product stream B containing ethylene, diethyl ethers, water and unconverted ethanol, (2) cooling the product stream B, (3) disengaging the cooled product stream B in a separation unit to give a first stream C containing ethylene and diethyl ethers, and a second product stream D containing water, diethyl ethers and unconverted ethanol, (4) feeding the product stream D to a dewatering unit wherein the water stream F is separated from the diethyl ethers and unconverted ethanol stream E, (5) recycling the stream E into the dehydration reactor of step 1, (6) cooling the product stream C, and (7) feeding the cooled product stream C to a purification unit wherein the diethyl ethers stream G is separated from the ethylene stream H. Optionally, the ethyl ethers stream G is recycled to either the dewatering unit of step (4) or directly to dehydration reactor of step (1).

Process for producing ethylene

The present invention provides an apparatus comprising a vessel having a conduit extending therefrom, and a stirrer, a section of which is adapted to be located within the conduit and a section of which is adapted to be located within the vessel, said stirrer being adapted such that, in use, material within the conduit is conveyed in a direction towards the vessel and/or in a direction away from the vessel.
