A system includes a processor configured to provide an informational report to a wireless device about a vehicle component associated with a BLUETOOTH low energy (BTLE) chip, affixed to a vehicle, when the wireless device is determined to be within a predefined proximity to the BTLE chip. This can include information such as operational and wear status, but also can be purely explanatory, as to what the function of the component is.

Method and apparatus for wireless proximity based component information provision

A vehicle gesture system includes a processor connected to a transceiver and programmed to detect a wireless device associated with a vehicle feature settings interface for a first vehicle feature. The processor is further programmed to detect the wireless device based on received user input at the vehicle feature settings interface of the first vehicle feature. The processor is further programmed to control a setting for the first vehicle feature based on received data associated with one or more gestures made using the wireless device.

A transmission control system and method involve receiving, by a controller and from a turbine shaft speed sensor, a rotational speed of a turbine shaft of an automatic transmission, receiving, by the controller and from an output shaft speed sensor, a plurality of rotational speeds of an output shaft of the transmission, determining, by the controller, a shift time modifier based on the turbine shaft speed and a gradient of the output shaft speed, modifying, by the controller, a shift time for a pedal-off downshift of the transmission based on the shift time modifier to obtain a modified shift time, and controlling, by the controller, the pedal-off downshift of the transmission based on the modified shift time.

Techniques for controlling pedal-off downshifts of a vehicle transmission

Systems and methods for a vehicle automatic transmission comprising a dog clutch utilize a set of sensors configured to measure accelerator pedal position, torque generating device speed, and vehicle speed, and a controller configured to detect whether a coast downshift of the transmission to a desired gear ratio and involving the dog clutch is to be performed. In response to detecting that the coast downshift involving the dog clutch is to be performed, the controller determines whether the accelerator pedal has been depressed indicating a request for increased torque generating device speed/torque, when the accelerator pedal is depressed, performs a downshift of the transmission, while the accelerator pedal is not depressed, determines whether a synchronization point of the vehicle speed relative to the torque generating device speed has been reached and when the vehicle/torque generating device speed synchronization point has been reached, performs the downshift of the transmission.

Driver scheduled vehicle coast downshift control and shift diagnostic techniques

A vehicle includes a hydraulic control unit (HCU) having a set of electrically-actuated valves configured to open/close to accumulate a pressurized hydraulic fluid in a hydraulic apply circuit of a first clutch of a transmission; a hydraulic fluid pump mechanically driven by an engine and configured to provide the pressurized hydraulic fluid to the HCU; and a controller configured to: prior to temporarily stopping the engine, control the engine and the HCU such that the pressurized hydraulic fluid accumulates in the hydraulic apply circuit of the first clutch to a desired hydraulic fluid pressure, and upon restarting the engine, control the set of electrically-actuated valves of the HCU to provide the pressurized hydraulic fluid from the hydraulic apply circuit first clutch to a hydraulic apply circuit for a second clutch of the transmission to apply the second clutch and shift the transmission into drive.

A vehicle sensor may indicate heading angle. A plurality of seating zones may each include an orientation sensor indicating seating angle. A component within one of the seating zones may provide interface information descriptive of commands and associated air gestures oriented to the one seating zone, and perform one of the commands responsive to a personal device detecting the corresponding air gesture, accounting for the heading angle and seating angle. Gesture input from a personal device may be adjusted to create acceleration data in a reference frame of an in-vehicle component in a seating zone using orientation of the device, vehicle heading relative to magnetic North, and orientation angle for the seating zone including the device. When the acceleration data matches an air gesture in a library of air gestures, a command may be sent to the component corresponding to the matching air gesture.

A personal device may include a display and a processor. The processor of the personal device may be programmed to send, to the display, a vehicle interior map overlaid with indications of in-vehicle components, create a group of the in-vehicle components responsive to receipt of a swipe gesture to the display selecting a subset of the indications, receive input from the display of a location on the map, and aim outputs of the in-vehicle components of the group based on the location.

In-vehicle component control user interface

A system may include zones associated with respective seating positions of a vehicle and in-vehicle components each associated with at least one of the zones. An in-vehicle component may identify a personal device associated with the zone of the in-vehicle component by identifying a personal device associated with the zone of the in-vehicle component by determining average signal strength between the personal device and the in-vehicle components of each zone, and identifying for which zone the average signal strength is highest, and sending a notification to the personal device responsive to a detected user interaction. A method may include detecting user interaction to an in-vehicle component of a zone; acquiring signal strength intensity information of personal devices from other in-vehicle components of the zone; calculating average signal strengths of the personal devices to the in-vehicle components; associating one of the personal devices to the zone as having a highest average signal strength to the in-vehicle components of the zone; and sending a notification to the one of the personal devices.

Efficient tracking of personal device locations

A vehicle component may operate in a plurality of connectionless functional states including a watchdog state in which the component broadcasts advertisements indicating presence of the vehicle component to personal devices; a notify state in which the component broadcasts cycles of advertisements indicating available features of the component; and a process command state in which the component broadcasts current feature state advertisements responsive to command advertisements received from the personal devices. A personal device may operate in a plurality of connectionless functional states including an acquire interface state in which the personal device collects information indicative of component functions based on non-connectable advertisements from in-vehicle components; a display interface state in which the personal device provides a user interface of controls based on information collected during the acquire interface state; and a process command state in which the device broadcasts command advertisements responsive to operator input to the user interface.

Connectionless communication with interior vehicle components

Zones may be associated with respective seating positions of a vehicle. In-vehicle components may also be associated with at least one of the zones of the vehicle. A processor may locate a personal device as being within one of the zones; identify notification settings of the personal device; and invoke notification devices of the in-vehicle components associated with the zone when the notification settings indicate that the personal device has not been previously located in the zone. Invoking the notification devices may include invoking at least one of backlights of the in-vehicle components or existing lighting elements of the in-vehicle component.

In-vehicle control location

A system may include in-vehicle components arranged symmetrically within and delimiting boundaries of a vehicle interior; and a processor programmed to identify signal strength information indicative of distance of a personal device from wireless transceivers of each of the in-vehicle components; and compute, using the signal strength information, a quadrant and diagonal sector including a location of the personal device, and whether the location is within the vehicle interior. A method may include identifying a quadrant of a vehicle including a location of a personal device by comparing signal strength information of pairs of wireless transceivers in adjacent quadrants to signal strength information of wireless transceivers opposite the pairs; and determining a diagonal sector including the location by comparing the signal strength information from the wireless transceiver of the quadrant to the signal strength information from the wireless transceiver in a diagonally-opposite quadrant.

Symmetrical reference personal device location tracking

A listing of wireless in-vehicle components installed to a vehicle may be maintained by the vehicle. The listing may include in-vehicle components that are factory-installed to the vehicle as well as add-on in-vehicle components that may be added or removed by a user. A wireless transceiver may scan for changes to the add-on in-vehicle components within the vehicle. A user interface may display a unified interface including both the factory-installed wireless in-vehicle components and the add-on wireless in-vehicle components. A user may review and adjust the configuration of the in-vehicle components of the in-vehicle components using the user interface.

Integration of add-on interior modules into driver user interface

A system may include a wireless transceiver configured to scan for advertised services; and a processor programmed to receive a service identifier of a service from the wireless transceiver, verify a name included in the service identifier indicates that the service identifier is an in-vehicle component, and decode, from the service identifier, a relative location within the vehicle, a zone controlled by the in-vehicle component, and a category of functionality of the in-vehicle component. A method may include enumerating characteristics of a service of an in-vehicle component describing configurable functions of the in-vehicle component; retrieving a control state of the in-vehicle component using a read characteristic of the service; generating a user interface of the in-vehicle component indicating the configurable functions and the control state; and updating the control state of the in-vehicle component using a write characteristic of the service responsive to user input to the user interface.
