A handheld vacuum cleaner includes a dirt separator. The dirt separator includes a chamber having an inlet through which dirt-laden fluid enters and an outlet through which cleansed fluid exits the chamber. A disc located at the outlet rotates about a rotational axis and comprises holes through which the cleansed fluid passes.

An attachment for a vacuum cleaning appliance has a first part which is connectable to a main body of the appliance, and a second part which is connectable to the first part. The first part includes a crevice nozzle and a brush section which is moveable along the crevice nozzle between a retracted position and a deployed position. The second part includes a suction inlet, and is arranged to be push-fitted over the first part so that the crevice nozzle and the brush section of the first part are both stored within the second part when the second part is connected to the first part.

A handheld vacuum cleaner includes a cyclonic separating unit and a body that includes a suction generator, a battery and a handle by which the vacuum cleaner is supported during use. The handle is provided with an actuator in the form of a finger-operated trigger for actuating the vacuum cleaner and a trigger guard disposed below the trigger. The battery is disposed below the trigger guard such that the center of gravity of the vacuum cleaner is located below the trigger guard.
