Apparatus for controlling a welding station used for welding seams extending along cylindrical can bodies, the welding station comprising a pair of welding rolls and a calibration unit for causing a desired cylinder overlap during welding. The calibration unit is adjustable along at least three different adjustment axes. The apparatus comprises: a weld monitor configured to monitor welded seams and provide an electrical signal indicative of weld thickness at a series of predetermined points along the seam length; a controller configured to receive said signal and to generate one or more control signals; and adjustment mechanisms for coupling to the calibration unit, or forming part of the calibration unit. The adjustment mechanisms are configured to receive the signal(s) and to be responsive thereto to adjust the calibration unit relative to one or more of said three adjustment axes, to provide the desired cylinder overlap and/or a desired weld quality.

A self-cooling can comprising an evaporator unit within the can and an absorber unit provided outside the container body. A beverage within the can is cooled by means of vapor which passes from the evaporator to the absorber when these are connected so as to provide a vapor path between the two. The path for water vapor, for example, to pass from the evaporator to the absorber is formed by rupturing a pane between the evaporator and the absorber when the can and part or all of the absorber are rotated relative to each other.

Self-cooling can

An apparatus for reshaping a container includes a mold of the split type. The container has a body member, a closed lower end member and a cone-shaped open upper end member. The mold has a pair of upper clamping members and a lower clamping member which slide along a liner. The upper clamping members and a seal for closing the container act on the double seam between the upper end member and the body member, thus ensuring that the upper end member and the double seam do not deform during reshaping. The seam between the lower end member and the body member is gripped between the lower clamping member and a support member. During reshaping, compressed air is supplied to the interior of the container, causing it to expand outwardly while the clamping members move inwardly.
