This disclosure generally relates to catheters, methods of enhancing the patency of an intravascular catheter and compositions, methods, devices and kits relating to the infusion of a catheter lock solution into an indwelling catheter. Disclosed compositions, methods, devices and kits aid in diminishing the effects of microbial infection in catheters and occlusion of the catheters. A representative lock solution includes about 10% sodium citrate and about 1.5% benzyl alcohol. The solution has a density approximating the density of blood for retention of the solution in a catheter during the lock period.

Methods and design for a Slotted T-shaped PD Catheter are disclosed. The present invention includes a unique port design for peritoneal dialysis catheters that allows high outflow and inflow rates, with a minimum fluid velocity through the fluid entry ports. Features of this device include T-shaped catheter with subcutaneous tubing joining to an intraperitoneal portion that is essentially at right angles to the intraperitoneal tubing and slit shaped flow ports as opposed to round shaped flow ports.

Described herein are devices and methods for vascular access via the tributaries. A single lumen catheter, with a bidirectional valve at the tip is disclosed. Flow is out the longitudinal tip of the catheter and not the sides. The two-way valve will act passively but has low opening and closing pressures. A method utilizing endo-to-side port placement of said catheter in vasculature is disclosed. Anastomosis methods are described using said catheter.

In one aspect, compositions provide antimicrobial therapy as topical disinfectants. Particularly, one aspect relates to an alcohol containing antimicrobial composition that includes at least one paraben, a redox compound and an organic acid at a concentration of from about 1.5 percent to about 10 percent by weight, based on the total weight of the composition.
