A filter assembly that includes a separator for separating gas from a fluid. The assembly includes; a base with surrounding walls that define a fluid reservoir; a baffle that overlies at least a portion of the reservoir; a filter element that is beneath the baffle and in the reservoir; and, a cover that is removably fastened to the base and includes a fluid inlet that terminates in a conical base with an unrestricted opening and the baffle includes a fluid impact cone.

A self-learning lock cylinder assembly or lock tumbler and tools capable of teaching the self-learning key configuration of a pre-existing key is disclosed. The individual performing the self-learning does not need to have prior locksmith experience. The individual performing the self-learning procedure can verify that the original key and copies of the original key function properly within the lock cylinder prior to final assembly and installation in the lock through a self-learning test housing. The pre-installation testing eliminates problems associated with an incorrectly assembled lock cylinder.

A fire suppression system is disclosed. The system includes a source of pressurized gas and a source of pressurized liquid. At least one emitter is in fluid communication with the liquid and gas sources. The emitter is used to establish a gas stream, atomize and entrain the liquid into the gas stream and discharge the resulting liquid-gas stream onto the fire. The emitter discharges the liquid-gas stream against a deflector surface having a closed end cavity therein.

An emitter for atomizing and discharging a liquid entrained in a gas stream is disclosed. The emitter has a nozzle with an outlet facing a deflector surface having a closed end cavity. The nozzle discharges a gas jet against the deflector surface. The emitter has a duct with an exit orifice adjacent to the nozzle outlet. Liquid is discharged from the orifice and is entrained in the gas jet where it is atomized.

A fire suppression sprinkler system convertible between a wet and a dry mode of operation is disclosed. The system features a field convertible valve having a bypass loop with a bypass valve for selectively configuring the valve for wet or dry mode operation. For dry mode operation, the bypass valve is open. The field convertible valve also has a system actuator, a gas control valve and a water supply shut-off valve which are open in the dry mode. In the wet mode of operation, the bypass valve is open and the gas control and water supply shut-off valves are closed. The field convertible valve operates in a latch mode controlled by the system actuator in the dry mode, and as a flapper valve in the wet mode of operation. A method of converting the mode of operation of the sprinkler system is also disclosed.

Dual extinguishment fire suppression system using high velocity low pressure emitters

A cover mountable on a support frame for protecting a frangible item mounted within the frame is disclosed. The cover has first and second cover portions engaging the frame on opposite sides of the item. A hinge connects first ends of the covers together and a releasable fastener connects the other ends. Fingers extend from one or both of the cover portions toward the opposite cover portion and are positioned in spaced relation to the ends of the cover portions. The fingers and the ends of the cover portions define spaces at opposite ends of the cover which receive and engage portions of the support frame. The fingers are in spaced relation to one another and define a space between them for receiving the frangible item. The fingers are sized and spaced so that they transfer any force on the cover to the frame exclusively. The covers have an arcuate shape to provide increased stiffness.

A tool and a method for installing a sprinkler head in a threaded fitting of a fire suppression system is disclosed. The sprinkler head is protected by a cover. The tool is formed from an elongated body having a cavity that is sized to receive the cover. One end of the body interfaces with a wrench, the other end has one or more axially extending slots sized to receive the fingers of a torque plate affixed to the sprinkler head. The sprinkler head has a threaded nipple that engages the threaded fitting. The nipple is engaged with the fitting and torque is applied to it by engaging the slots of the tool with the fingers and turning the tool with the wrench. The tool has an external index allowing the sprinkler head to be angularly oriented to direct its discharge stream.

A torque plate for use with a sprinkler head in a fire suppression system is disclosed. The torque plate has a base from which one or more fingers project transversely. The torque plate is mounted on the sprinkler head. A protective cover surrounds the sprinkler head. The fingers project outwardly beyond the cover, allowing a tool to engage them. The tool is formed from an elongated body having a cavity that is sized to receive the cover. One end of the body interfaces with a wrench, the other end has one or more axially extending slots sized to receive the fingers of the torque plate. The sprinkler plate has a threaded nipple that engages a threaded fitting on the sprinkler system. Torque is applied to engage the nipple with the fitting by engaging the slots of the tool with the fingers and turning the tool with the wrench.
