An electrical connector filter or transient suppression component structure includes a component body, a first lead adapted to electrically contact a feedthrough contact pin in an electrical connector and a second lead adapted to engage a ground plate. The first lead may be cylindrical to extend all the way around the contact pin, the second lead including a cylindrical termination section which electrically connects the component to the ground plate by engaging an aperture provided in the ground plate. The components are housed in a dielectric insert assembly which, in one embodiment includes pairs of circular openings at one end and rectangular/circular opening pairs at the other end, the component body being inserted into a rectangular opening and the contacts and termination section extending through the circular openings. The second end of the insert may include projections surrounding one circular opening in each of the pairs of circular openings to insulate the contacts from the ground plate, the projections extending through circular openings in the ground plate and the cylindrical termination sections of the ground lead extending through and engaging additional circular openings in the ground plate.

Diode/filter connector

A male and female connector contains a plurality of possible positions for key type projections and an equal number of receiving type features for accepting the key type projections. The features are arranged in nonsymmetrical but regularly spaced fashion, and the number of different combinations possible is given by the relationship C=n!/r!(n-r)! where n is the total number of feature positions and r is the number of actual features provided.

Connector having multiple keying features

An electrical connector capable of withstanding a predetermined pressure differential without leakage and a predetermined axial load without dislocation of insert assemblies from their normal position in the connector shell is disclosed. The connector includes one insert assembly which may be a pin or socket insert assembly and an other insert assembly which is a socket insert assembly. The one and the other insert assemblies include contacts arranged in 'piggy-back' relation. The one insert assembly is ring staked to the connector shell and the socket insert assembly is bonded to a grommet and sealed in the shell.

Pressurized electrical connector and method of assembly

A tubular sleeve of a deformable plastic is longitudinally slotted to define a plurality of laterally separated axially weakened longitudinal columns (62) the respective forward leading edges (64) of which being inserted into an annular passageway (32) formed between an insert (20) disposed in a shell (10) so that the columns curl about and the column medial portions (66) collapse in an accordian-like fashion whereby to radially interferencingly wedge and lock the columns in the passage and thereby to retain the insert in the shell. The curling could be 180.degree. causing the leading edges to retreat coaxially rearward or be 270.degree. causing the leading edges to loop about and be driven radially outward, the leading edges in either possibly engaging its rearward medial portion.

Retaining an insert in an electrical connector

A conductive insert assembly is mounted in a metal shell to retain and ground out unwanted electrical signals between two or more coaxial terminals, the grounding arrangement including a cylindrical metal retention clip being carried in each passage of an array of through passages, the clip including a spring finger that establishes a first electrical circuit contact with an axial end face of the terminal, and a stiff protuberance and a resilient wing that extend radially inward to captivate and establish a second electrical path with the outer periphery of the terminal, the retention clip being captivated within a pair of conductive planar members.

Grounded contact connector

An anti-decoupling mechanism for preventing unwanted decoupling of an electrical connector as a result of vibration. The decoupling mechanism includes a one-piece gull-shaped spring (400) mounted to a connector coupling ring (300). The spring (400) includes a central portion (410) having an arcuate groove (411) formed thereon and a pair of wing members (420, 430) extending outwardly therefrom, the arcuate portion being secured in place by a pin (600) interference fit through a hole (331) disposed in the coupling ring. Each wing member includes first and second strips in superposed relation and a medial enlargement or tooth member (440) projecting radially inward from a forward surface of one of the strips and adapted to engage ratchet teeth (141) disposed on one of the connectors, the wings biasing the tooth against the ratchet teeth to increase anti-decoupling torque.

A pair of connector members (10,30) have cylindrical portions (12,32) which mate along a first direction, one and the other member having an angled cable support (20,26) and a rectangular end portion (34) adapted for fitment in a configured opening (44) of a connector receptacle (40) in only of selected angular positions and only in a second direction whereby to orient the mated members and the cable support relative to the receptacle. An integrally formed latch arrangement (16,18) and terminal retention arrangement (60,58) allows for snap-in assembly.

Multi-part electrical connector assembly

This invention relates to an electrical connector that has insertable and removable contacts (20) retained and sealed against moisture by a one piece molded rubber insert (30). The invention is characterized by a contact (20) having two annular grooves (24, 25) formed by acutely angled flat surfaces (26, 27) that are adapted to mate with flat surfaces (36, 37) from corresponding wall portions (32, 33) of a complementary shaped bore (31) in a molded rubber insert (30).

This invention relates to a connector assembly and more particularly to an insert assembly (20) that enables more than one coaxial contact (40) to be mounted within and grounded to a connector housing (10). The insert assembly is characterized by a planar metal member (21) and a planar plastic member (24) molded to the planar metal member (21). Both planar members (21, 24) having a plurality of axially extending and axially aligned bores (27) containing means (31, 41, 28) for retaining respective coaxial terminals (40) in each of the bores (27). The insert assembly (20) is mounted in the connector housing (10) so that the planar metal member (21) is an electrical contact with the housing (10). The invention provides a connector for releasably retaining a plurality of coaxially cable terminates (40) without the need to handwire together their metal sheaths (81).

The invention is an electrical connector that has a forwardly removable coupling ring (30). The coupling ring (30) is characterized by annular members (31, 32) that are connected together by one or more removable fasteners (50, 51) and held in place in front of the housing flange (11) by a snap ring (40) located in a groove (12) in the housing (10).

In order to retard the rotation of a coupling nut (40) mounted to an electrical connector housing (10) an annular ring (50) comprised of a rubber having a durometer of about 70 is located in pressure tight contact between the housing (10) and coupling nut (40).

Anti-decoupling mechanism for an electrical connector

A socket contact (50) for electrical connectors and method of manufacture is disclosed comprised of a separate solid socket body (10) formed with a terminal portion (14), and a projection (16) receiving a tubular spring member (28). The projection (16) has a forward larger diameter section (20) with an intermediate groove (22), and a reduced diameter section (26). The spring member (28) has a circumferential crimp (38) seated in the intermediate groove (22) at assembly. Both the spring member (28) and an outer guide sleeve (40) have their rear ends (30, 46) crimped into the reduced diameter section (26) to establish a mechanical assembly thereto. The circumferential crimp (38) seated in the groove (22) enhances the electrical connection between the spring member (28) in the socket body (10) as well as aiding in assembly.

Socket contact for electrical connector and method of manufacture

This invention provides an improved moisture seal for an electrical connector assembly. The invention is characterized by an annular rubber member (10) having generally flat surfaces (11, 12, 13, 14) and an annular groove (15) in one of the surfaces (11) that abuts against a forward surface of one of the housings (30). A second groove (16) extending radially from the annular groove (15) to a circumferential surface (14) provides an escape path for air that would normally be trapped in the annular groove (15) when the sealing member (10) is compressed.

A three-piece socket contact characterized by a solid machined contact body (10), a tubular spring member (20) having at least one radially inwardly extending detent that engages a groove (11) in the contact body (10) to secure the spring member (20) to the contact body (10), and a protective sleeve (30) telescopically mounted over the tubular spring member (20).
