The invention relates to novel internal fixation devices, such as bone plates, generally and novel craniomaxillofacial bone plates more specifically and systems for bonding the same. More specifically, the invention relates to bone plates made of a polymer blend of (poly)lactic acid and Ecoflex as well as a novel hot-melt adhesive polymer blend of the same material.

Biodegradable bone plates and bonding systems

The present invention relates to the processes of preparing silkfibroin/polyethylene oxide blended materials, and the resulting materials thereof, which are suitable for biomedical applications such as wound healing. In particular, the electrospun silk fibroin/PEO mats with a silk:PEO blend ratio of 2:1 to 4:1, treated with controlled evaporation, constraint-drying techniques, and/or alcohol treatment, and/or PEO extraction, demonstrate suitable physical and biofunctional properties, such as fiber structure, topography, absorption, water vapor transmission rates, oxygen permeation, and biodegradability, relevant to biomaterial systems with utility for wound dressings.

Electrospun silk material systems for wound healing

The invention relates to new amphiphilic linear block copolymers of polysaccharides and polymers. The amphiphilic linear block copolymers do not form a true solution in water and are able to form micelles in selective solvents. Also disclosed are particles, each of which has a shell and a core, and a diameter of about 1 to 1,000 nanometers, and methods of delivering agents or removing substances, e.g., undesirable substances, from a subject or environment, by using these particles.

Polysaccharide-containing block copolymer particles and uses thereof

The compression molded article includes an outer plastic film layer, a first plastic layer adhered to the outer plastic film layer and a second plastic layer adhered to the first plastic layer. Long fibers having a length of from 8 to 100 mm are admixed with the second plastic layer. The article is formed by compression molding.

Surface finishing compression molding with multi-layer extrusion

A molded article including a plastic layer and an outer film over the plastic layer forming a composite laminate with the plastic layer and a process for preparing same. The outer film has an inner surface adjacent and bonded to the plastic layer and an outer surface opposed to the inner surface. The molded article also includes a reinforcing material adhered to the inner surface of the outer film layer and preferably at least partly embedded in the inner surface of the outer film layer.

Molded article and process for preparing same

A film and heated plastic blank are sized to fit over a mold cavity and a combination of said film and blank formed. The combination is positioned over the mold cavity and formed in said mold cavity into the shape of said mold cavity.

Process and apparatus for preparing a molded article

A molded plastic article having improved electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding properties. The article includes a plastic layer and an outer film layer over the plastic layer. The outer film layer has an inner surface adjacent to and bonded to the plastic layer and an outer surface opposed to the inner surface. The plastic layer and outer layer are electrically conductive. Preferably the outer layer has higher conductivity than the plastic layer.

Molded article

A method of producing unsaponifiable rich refined vegetable oils by refining crude vegetable oils with a weak acid salt, e.g., a carbonate salt, to produce a refined vegetable oil and a soapstock is described. The refined oil can be further refined with a strong base to produce unsaponifiable rich concentrates.

This invention relates to high molecular weight bioresorbable copolymers constructed to be useful for specific applications in the biomedical arts. Also provided is a new cyclic carbonate monomer, and copolymers containing the new monomers.

Bioresorbable copolymers

Biodegradable blends including a first, polylactic acid-based polymer or copolymer, and a second polymer or copolymer including one or more polyesters, e.g., an aliphatic polyester or a polyester of one aliphatic C.sub.2 to C.sub.20 diacid or of a combination of two more different aliphatic C.sub.2 to C.sub.20 diacids, wherein the first and second polymers are present in a ratio of 9:1 to 1:9, are described.

Polyactic acid-based blends

A biodegradable and hydrodegradable diblock copolymer includes a naturally-occurring poly(.beta.-alkanoate) component and a chemically synthesized polyester component formed by ring-opening polymerization. A method of forming the biodegradable and hydrodegradable diblock copolymer having a poly(.beta.-hydroxyalkanoate) component and a chemically synthesized polyester component includes exposing a naturally-occurring poly(.beta.-hydroxyalkanoate) to alcoholysis and then to a trialkyl metal to form a dialkyl metal poly(.beta.-hydroxyalkanoate) macroinitiator. The macroinitiator is then reacted with a lactone or lactide reactant to form the biodegradable and hydrodegradable diblock copolymer.
