Catalytic compositions for conversion of substituted aromatic feed materials to oxidized products comprising aromatic carboxylic acid derivatives of the substituted aromatic feed materials comprise a combination comprising a palladium component, an antimony component and/or a bismuth component, and one or more Group 4, 5, 6 or 14 metal or metalloid components. A process for oxidizing substituted aromatic feed materials comprises contacting the feed material with oxygen in the presence of such a catalytic composition in a liquid reaction mixture.

Process and catalyst for oxidizing aromatic compounds

A process for making relatively high purity eulfonylbis(phthalic anhydride) is provided. 3,3',4,4'-tetramethyl diphenyl sulfone is catalytically oxidized in a solvent under liquid phase elevated temperature and pressure conditions. The catalyst is constituted by cobalt, manganese, zirconium, and bromine. Sulfonylbis(phthalic) acid is recovered by crystallization and is then heated to produce the anhydride. Preferably, the acid is purified prior to dehydration.

Process for producing sulfonylbis (phthalic anhydride)

A method is disclosed for producing purified 5-t-butylisophthalic acid by the liquid-phase oxidation of 5-t-butyl-m-xylene in a solvent and in the presence of a catalyst comprising cobalt, manganese and bromine components.
