Embodiments described herein provide touchless temperature and/or flow control for water faucets utilizing the movements of a user's hand toward or away from to a dispensing area of the faucet. One embodiment comprises a water faucet that provides touchless control of water dispensed by the water faucet. The water faucet comprises a controller and a spout head. The spout head includes a sensor electrically coupled to the controller that detects a movement of a user's hand toward or away from the spout head. The controller initiates dispensing of the water from the spout head at a pre-defined rate, and varies the flow rate based on the movement of the user's hand toward or away from the spout head.

Touchless control of electronic water faucets

An ergonomic water conserving faucet assembly that pivots around a cognitive central point providing touchless water temperature, flow rate, volume control and spray pattern adjustment through multiple, hygienic means. The assembly comprises a pivotable, ergonomic, ball-shaped spout that may be used statically or hand held; a retractable water delivery hose connecting the spout to a water source; a water mixing valve at the water source delivering water of preselected temperature; solenoid valves controlling flow; proximity and object detection sensors mapping the sink area and detecting input signals; speech sensors with microphone for voice control; an LED display of water temperature; internal speakers delivering audible prompts; and an electronic controller recognizing speech and supervising operations.

Electronic faucet with voice, temperature, flow and volume control

A scanning tunneling microscope with a stage capable of coarse motion in the horizontal (or X Y) plane and also capable of fine or scanning motion in the X, Y and Z directions. The stage comprises a square array of nine blocks connected by twelve PZTs, with clamping feet on the four corner blocks. The clamping feet can be electrically clamped to a horizontal surface. The underside of the center block holds the surface to be studied. By selectively clamping pairs of the feet and expanding and contracting groups of the PZts, the stage can be made to walk anywhere on the horizontal surface. A tunneling tip is supported atop a novel vertical crawler which is mounted in a vertical bore in a base unit. The vertical crawler provides coarse Z-axis positioning. Scanning or fine motion is achieved by clamping all four of the stage's feet while groups of the PZTs which connect the blocks are selectively activated.

An electronic water faucet is disclosed, including means for detecting the presence of an object near an outlet of said faucet and determining whether or not noise or reflected light is being sensed. The faucet includes a swivelable spout relative to a main body. Position sensing means for sensing the angular position of the spout are included. The angular positions which the spout can assume are designed to various zones, and those zones are programmed to be active or not active in an automatic mode of operation of the faucet. A rotary mixing valve for supplying and mixing hot and cold water using a cam and deformable seal is used to partially seal hot and cold water inlets.

Electronic faucet with spout position sensing means

A modular water faucet, which includes a base operatively connected to a spout. The base and spout each have a cubical design and include thereon means for mounting decorative panels of various design and/or color. The modules making up the base can be stacked to any desired height, and the spouts are interchangeable with the base. The water faucet includes an automatic control system for dispensing water upon the sensing of a human body or other object near an outlet of the spout. The control system uses infrared light to detect the presence of an object. Means for differentiating the reflected light from ambient light are included. Water temperature is also sensed and compared to a preselected temperature. Water is prevented from flowing if the temperature is in excess of the preselected temperature and warnings are given in an automatic mode. Water flow will proceed if a manual mode is initiated. The control system also detects the position of the spout relative to the base. If the spout is turned through a preset angle to the side, then water flow is forced off for maintenance. A mixing valve is operated by a slide passing through the base to preset the temperature of the water supplied. A manual override is provided in the automatic water faucet in the event of a power outage.
