A computer-implemented method includes: establishing a connection between a user device of a user and a system onboard a vehicle being driven by the user; requesting access, through the established connection, to user information on the user device; in response to a grant of access, retrieving at least a portion of the user information from the user device, the portion of user information including a digital identification document of the user that had been issued by an entity after having vetted the user, the digital identification document including a digital biometric of the user as well as a digital watermark indicating the issuing entity; and retaining, on the system onboard the vehicle, data encoding the digital identification document of the user on the vehicle such that when the vehicle is inspected by a third-party agent, the digital identification document of the user is presented to the third-party agent.

In one aspect, a method includes the actions of capturing video data that includes multiple video frames that each include a representation of a face of a user while activating multiple light sources according to a predetermined lighting pattern. The actions further include, for each of the multiple video frames that each include the representation of the face of the user, analyzing the representation of the face of the user in the respective video frame and the respective predetermined lighting pattern active during capture of the respective video frame. The actions further include, based on analyzing the representation of the face of the user in the respective video frame and the respective predetermined lighting pattern, determining whether the face of the user is that of a live person or a static image.

A computer-assisted method includes: accessing information encoding a high-resolution image of an identification document, the high-resolution image captured from a camera of a mobile computing device; extracting personally identifiable information (PII) printed on more than one locations on the front of the identification document; correlating the PII to determine a first authentication factor; inspecting the high-resolution image to detect at least one fine-print feature from a substrate of the identification document, the at least one fine-print feature not detectable by naked eyes alone and without a visual aid; in response to (i) determining a match for the PII and (ii) determining that at least one fine-print feature is present, correlating the PII with information content from the at least one fine-print feature; and in response to determining that the PII are correlated with information content from the at least one fine-print feature that the identification document as authentic.

Some implementations may provide a machine-assisted that includes: receiving, from a participant entity, a request to determine a trustworthiness of a transaction request, the transaction request being submitted by a user to access data managed by the participant entity; submitting a first inquiry at an authentication verification engine to determine an authenticity of a purported identity of the user submitting the transaction request; receiving a response from the authentication verification engine, the response including a computed authenticity score quantitatively attesting to the purported identity of the user submitting the transaction request; based on the computed authenticity score, determining the trustworthiness of the transaction request being submitted by the user; and notifying the participant entity of the determined trustworthiness of the transaction request to access data managed by the participant entity.
