The annulus is bound by an inner hub wall and an outer casing and includes a support structure, the support structure bearing the inner hub wall; at least one spigot passing through the hub wall and at least one strut arranged to pass through the spigot of the inner hub wall and across the annulus. The strut has a first end having an abutment arm extending to form an abutment shoulder. Alignable holes pass through the abutment arm and the spigot and these holes are configured to receive a cross pin which is in turn configured to fit snugly through the holes. The configuration is such that, the abutment rim and abutment shoulder are located radially inwardly of the holes and cross pin and outside of the annulus.

Assembly for supporting an annulus

There is provided a liquid-capturing shaft (). The shaft is hollow, arranged for rotation about its longitudinal axis (), and has a cylindrical wall () defining an inner surface () and an outer surface () of the shaft and through which are formed a plurality of circumferentially spaced apart inlet openings (). Each inlet opening () has a respective inwardly and axially facing capture surface () which extends from the outer surface () of the shaft to the inner surface () of the shaft.

Liquid-capturing shaft

An outer ring for a rolling element bearing has three mounting pads on its outer surface. The inner surface of the ring is arranged to be non-circular, with its effective radius being at a minimum at the three points midway between adjacent pairs of mounting pads. This provides a preload on the rolling elements of the bearing in use, preventing skidding, but because the ring is not supported between the pads it can still flex under loads. The ring may be oriented in use so that transient loads are directed through one of the mounting pads.
