A fault tolerant controller system includes a first controller and a second controller. One of the first and second controllers designated as a primary controller for generating control signals intended to control actuation devices on a vehicle under non-fault operating conditions, and the other of the first and second controllers designated as a secondary controller generating control signals intended to control actuation devices on the vehicle. The actuation devices are responsive only to the designated primary controller. An error is detected in the primary controller and a message is transmitted from the faulty controller to the non-faulty controller identifying the error. The non-faulty controller is subsequently designated as the primary controller. The control signals including an identifier that identifies the non-faulty controller as the designated primary controller. In response to detecting the error, the faulty controller is reset to operate in a safe operating mode as the secondary controller.

Primary controller designation in fault tolerant systems

The present disclosure relates to an automated system for use in connection with longitudinal deceleration, longitudinal acceleration, and lateral acceleration functions. The system includes an interface receiving signals from and transmitting signals to a controller. The system also includes a safety kernel system comprising safety kernel software and a set of safety rules. Also disclosed are methods for use in a motion control system in connection with vehicle deceleration, acceleration, and lateral acceleration. The methods in some cases include receiving an initial request into a safety kernel software and determining whether the safety kernel software has received an override. The methods can also include detecting a violation of any primary safeguards defined by the safety kernel software, detecting a violation within a set of secondary safeguards defined by the safety kernel software, and adjusting the initial request to a modified level; and transmitting the modified level to an actuator.

Methods and apparatus for isolating safety functions in a motion control system for a vehicle

A system and method of parking assist includes a detection device located in a rear portion of a vehicle. The detection device acquires data representative of a viewable area behind the vehicle. The detection device is in communication with a park assist controller. A first viewable area that includes an area where a tow device is located when attached to the rear portion of the vehicle is monitored, where the first viewable area is associated with a first field of view (FOV). If the tow device is detected within the first viewable area, the park assist controller switches between the first FOV to a second field of view (FOV) associated with a second viewable area, where the second viewable area does not include the area where the tow device is located. Feedback is provided to a display indicating if an obstacle is located within the second FOV.

Park assist system and method

An engine management system monitors driving habits of a vehicle operator over time to generate a driver profile. The driver profile is used to adjust available engine power to more closely match the driver's habits. A predetermined nominal engine power versus vehicle speed range is established for an engine. A system controller monitors and compares the driver power requests to the nominal engine power versus vehicle speed range over time to determine the driver profile. The system controller also monitors current vehicle speed to determine whether the vehicle is operating at a low or high vehicle speed. The controller determines low and high speed engine power correction factors based on this driver profile. The appropriate correction factor is applied to modify the available engine power resulting in an engine power output that more closely matches an operator's driving tendencies.

Adaptive power control for vehicle engine

A method and system of automatically controlling engine speed of a vehicle in a turn employs an engine control system () to determine an optimal engine speed for the turn and an actual engine speed as sensed by an engine speed sensor (). Engine control system () determines the difference between optimal engine speed and actual engine speed and compares this difference to current engine load. Based on this comparison, engine control system () then determines whether to alter engine speed and, if so, determines an amount to reduce the difference between optimal engine speed and actual engine speed.
