A catalyst system comprising metal oxide or sulfide hydrogenation component on a ZSM-5 type zeolite support provides excellent hydrowaxing of various residua while simultaneously reducing the sulfur content thereof.

Catalyst for simultaneous desulfurization and dewaxing of residua

Heavy oils are simultaneously subjected to hydrocracking and dewaxing using a catalyst comprising zeolite beta and an X or Y or other faujasite zeolite together with a hydrogenation component. The process is able to effect a bulk conversion of the oil while, at the same time, yielding a low pour point product.

Catalysts for cracking and dewaxing hydrocarbon oils

There is disclosed an improved dewaxing process which will operate for longer periods of time involving contacting a feedstock having a 50 volume percent boiling point greater than 900.degree. F. with a crystalline aluminosilicate zeolite having a Constraint Index of from 1 to 12 and a silica-to-alumina ratio of at least 12. The crystalline aluminosilicate zeolite is composited with an inorganic oxide, such as alumina. The composite also containing a hydrogenation metal and the catalyst composite has a maximum diffusion distance of less than 0.025 inch.

Process for making improved lubricating oils from heavy feedstock

A process for simultaneously hydrotreating and dewaxing petroleum fractions is described. The process utilizes a single catalyst system which includes a hydrotreating component impregnated on a controlled pore size base and at least two catalyst components selected from any of an intermediate pore zeolite, a large pore zeolite or Zeolite Beta, and a large pore non-zeolite catalyst.

A process is disclosed for preparing a noble metal-containing zeolite catalyst of high noble metal dispersion. The process of crystallizing a zeolite from a forming mixture which contains an organic template, treating the zeolite by calcining or chemical oxidation to remove the template from the zeolite, mulling the zeolite with an inorganic oxide binder and a noble metal-containing solution, and thereafter extruding the blended mixture.

A hydrocracking process for feedstocks containing high boiling, waxy components uses a number of sequential beds of hydrocracking catalyst based on zeolite beta. The proportion of zeolite beta in the catalyst increases in sequence so that the final bed has the highest zeolite concentration. The dewaxing activity of the zeolite beta-containing catalysts is enhanced by the use of sequential beds in this manner. The pour point of the high boiling fraction is reduced, as well as that of the distillate product, permitting part of the high boiling fraction to be included in the distillate product, thereby increasing the useful distillate yield.

There is provided a method and catalyst for removing catalyst-poisoning impurities or contaminants such as arsenic, iron and nickel from hydrocarbonaceous fluids, particularly shale oil and fractions thereof. More particularly there is provided a method of removal of such impurities by contacting the fluids with a copper-Group VIA metal-alumina catalyst. For example, a copper-molybdenum-alumina catalyst may be used as a guard bed material in a step preceding most refining operations, such as desulfurization, denitrogenation, catalytic hydrogenation, etc.

A single catalyst system capable of demetalizing, hydrotreating and hydrodewaxing petroleum residue in a single stage process is described. The catalyst system utilized includes one or more metal oxides or sulfides of Group VIA and Group VIII of the periodic Table impregnated on a base of refractory oxide material and Zeolite Beta. The catalyst also has about 75% of its pore volume in pores no greater than 100 Angstrom units in diameter and about 20% of its pore volume in pore greater than about 300 Angstrom units in diameter.

A single stage catalyst system and process for using same in a single stage operation for hydrodewaxing and hydrotreating petroleum residua is disclosed. The catalyst comprises a ZSM-5 type zeolite in an alumina binder having specified metals content and pore diameter of less than 150 Angstroms.

Process for hydrotreating petroleum residua and catalyst therefor

A catalytic multi-stage hydrocarbon conversion process is provided for reducing high metals content, sulfur content and pour point of the catalytically reacted residual oil by the use of sequential combination of catalytic compositions. In the first stage, the residual oil, under demetalation and desulfurization reaction conditions, is passed over a catalyst comprising about 1 to about 10 weight percent of a Group VIB metal, based on the total catalyst weight, on a supporting comprising at least 85 weight percent alumina. The resulting catalyst contains at least 65 percent of its pore volume in the 150 to 300 Angstroms diameter range or at least 60 percent of its pore volume in the 100 to 200 Angstroms diameter range. The resulting product of stage 1, under desulfurization and dewaxing conditions, is then passed over a second catalyst comprising about 1 to about 10 percent of an iron group metal and about 5 to about 25 weight percent of a Group VIB metal, based on the total catalyst weight, on a support comprising a composite of alumina and a minor amount of about 5 to about 25 weight percent of a ZSM-5 crystalline zeolite based on the total composite. The resulting catalyst contains at least 60 percent of its pore volume in the 50 to 200 Angstroms diameter range or at least 50% of its pore volume in the 30 to 100 Angstroms diameter range.

The pour point of a hydrocarbon charge stock boiling above about 850.degree. F., is reduced by catalytically dewaxing the charge stock in the presence of a zeolite catalyst and subsequently subjecting at least the liquid portion thereof to hydrotreating in the presence of a hydrotreating catalyst comprising a hydrogenating component and a siliceous porous crystalline material from the class of ZSM-5, ZSM-11, ZSM-23 and ZSM-35 zeolites.
